AD-Aware SE antispy autoupdater and LSP Plugin

a generic fix-all for slow computers is:
add RAM, Defragment your Hard drive and make sure you are using a stable OS (i wouldn't recommend Vista).

The only way to get your computer to run faster without buying new hardware (such as RM or a new motherboard is to 1) eliminate unnecessary programs from starting up or loading at startup and/or by removing ad-ware/spy-ware from your computer.

1) Check to make sure that no programs that you are unaware of are starting up by running explorer.exe and going to Program Files/Startup and removing any progarms that you do feel you need from Startup.
2) Download, run, install either or both Ad-Aware (not AdWARE OR adaware) from www.lavasoft.com and/or Spybot Search & Destroy. Ad-aware and Spybot are both free and excellent programs.

Short of buying new hardware there is not much else you can do to make your computer run faster.

This is only an idea, but if you aren't on dial-up you can download 2 very good FREE programs. Go to download.com and enter AVG Free into search, Download the file, it's about 46MB. Save it to your temp folder (right click Start/explore/ (C) / Windows / Temp make a new folder in Temp called "software' or something. Then in download.com search for ad-aware free (it's by lavasoft) Save also to (C)/windows/temp/software.

Now install. When installing AVG select advanced instead of standard when you get to the box that gives the choice, when you get to where it confirms if you want to download and install the free AVG toolbar, untick (don't install it) Select USE FREE when you get to the registration box, and also don't register your details (unless you want emails from them)
Update it but don't run a scan yet.

Ad-aware by Lavasoft. Install it. Make sure the correct plug in's are ticked or not re what email software you use when you get to that box. Don't register this one either.

When they are both installed go to the desktop, you will have two shortcut icons for Ad-aware, keep the one that looks like a green world and delete the one that looks like a sheild with a beetle on it.

Open Lavasoft and Update it.
Open AVG and Update it.

Restart your computer in Safe mode (usually by pressing F8 at startup) Run a Full Scan from Ad-aware. Select and delete Critical and Privacy Spyware when scan completes.

Run an AVG full computer scan. Delete or remove anthing found.

Restart in normal Windows. From now on keep them updated and run at the minimum weekly scans (Smart Scans in Ad-aware) These two programs will cover virus and spyware very well, you can delete or disable anything else.
