I have changed my PC and the new one will not recognise that the printer is connected. It has a USB cable (printer end is not able to be unplugged) and when using the install disc I get a message to 'plug in or connect usb'. I do this and it doesn't work (and yes, I have turned the printer on). I have tried uninstalling the software and reinstalling; uninstalling the port and reinstalling. Don't know what else to do - please help.
TRY THIS, remove or uninstall the printer from your computer and turn it off.
Now, before you switch back ON the computer, remove the USB connection of your printer.
When the computer is done loading. Install the Printer using the CD that comes with the printer.
When the installer ask you to insert the USB connection of the printer,
that's the only time you should insert it to the USB port... switch ON the printer... Installation should proceed smoothly until completed.
That should solve your problem

Thank you for the suggested solution. Unfortunately, it didn't work. The set up wizard stays on "plug in the usb cable". It is as though the computer doesn't recognise the printer is plugged in. I am using a usb port that works with other hardware i.e. ipod, usb key etc.
One strange thing that does happen when I am trying to install using the cd and it gets to the point where it asks me to plug in the usb cable, is that the screen flickers a lot i.e. every 5 seconds or so. I don't know if this helps, but thought I better mention it in case it means something.
