Run a cable from the plug to the switch box with two wires and a ground. Connect the black wire to the black side of the outlet and the white wire to the white side of the outlet. Ground to ground. In the switch box connect the black wire to one side of the switch and the white wire goes directly to the white wire of the cable going to the first light. The black wire connects to the other side of the switch.(either side). Then the cable from the switch goes from light to light connecting one light to the next, maintaining black to black, white to white connections.

Used switches to control lights from 2 locations. Found power on 1st switch and finished it. No power to any of the wires on 2nd switch with 1st switch off.Wire does power up when 1st switch turned on

That is not how a three way switch system works. Depending on how you are switching the lights, shunt, series, the way, the concept must be determined and familiarized with.
Hot wire connects to the common wire of a three way switch, the other two terminals connect to traveler wires, these traveler wires connect to the two terminals of a second the way switch and the common terminal of the second switch connects to the load wire or switch leg that turns lights on and off.
The three way switch has a dark terminal screw, it is the common. A three way toggle switch does not have the markings off - on and had the terminals.

Wireing head and tail lights on a 1935 Packard. positive ground. 6 volt

seems to be three wires one red one green one probably red with black tracer . Okay seems to be one headlight circuit but 3 posible wires .If you have a volt meter you can test to see which ones are positive and negative they will be hooked like a regular car except the positive is considered ground okay ? if the switch is on test for negative on wires two should be there if these are the wires from the switch hook one of each to the head light prongs /plugs then there should be 2 positive wires that will be plugged into the other plug prong on head light after doing this switch the headlight switch on and off to see if they are working accordingly . As to replaceing wires that are rotten" and degraded they will need replaced probably use a 14 gauge wire for 6 volt headlight s if they where 12 it would be 16 ..newer type light there are plugs available and the polarities are reversible for such as high beam or combo light even simple job for good mechanic to run or install wires . you can google the wires diagram and find a schematic

Overall I have a switch at each end of the garage with two lights in the roof in between. Sw (A), Lite (B), Lite (C), Sw (D). SW A & D work as three way. I want to change out Sw D to a wall plug a

If this is what you've got:

a1111786-3b67-43eb-a2de-7ac2c5a3e864.jpg
"S3" are 3 way switches, black screws are the common or shunt. (Adjust colors of wires to what you have).

You can easily change it to look like this:

2fce37ab-a33c-44d8-bba6-846b5e07bd17.jpg

All S3s are out. Replace one with an S1 (single pole). The other S3 is now the outlet. Silver screw for neutral gold screw for hot. Outlet is always on, S1 controls both lights.

Please note: There are several ways to wire 2 three way switches (S3) to control a light or two. This is just one with a way to change this method to the way you're look for. Your wiring may not allow you to do this as easily.

Good luck!

Removed one end of a three way light and indtalled plug. Tied red and black at plug and it works. When I turn light sw on, plug goes dead?

Do you mean you replaced one 3-way switch with outlet?

Instead of replacing 3-way switch with outlet..
You can use a Leviton 5245 combo 3-way switch and outlet

I want to use a TM8111 swithch to control 3 devices. A ceiling fan/light combo, night light and a vanity light. How do I hook it up?

Following image has basic wiring plan.
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/TM8111-switch-wiring-500.jpg

Each Load (light-or-fan) has to have separate wire running to switch box.
If night light is plugged into wall outlet, then a new wire will have to be added going to switch box.
Most night lights have built in photo eye, and on-off switch.

Add a comment for more help and include specific wiring and what you have tried so far.

Can a normal two part wall switch run all three parts of a panasonic whisperlite fan/light/night light combo

Was it wired up there before with the 2 switches? One for the fan and the other for the light? You will have to take the plug out of the fan and cut the ends and wire nut them to their wire on the switch. Otherwise it be on when the switch is on. Or,,,, Find the right wire inside there and make sure it is separated from the light and hook it up that way, then it can stay plugged into the fan unit. Check it out, hope this helps.

I bought a hubbell hbl 1386 3 way switch. 2 pole. i don't know where to attach the 3 lines from the outlet to the switch? the drawing says to put red on L2, black on L1. Not sure where white goes. I don't...

What are you using the three way switch to control? A light? Or the socket outlet you are talking about? A three way switch is used in conjunction with another 3 way switch to allow you to turn something on and off from two different locations. If you are only controlling the outlet, then you only need a two way switch. In either case, the white wire, which should be the neutral wire (but don't count on it without testing), does not get fastened to any switch terminals. A switch is used to break the hot (black) side of a circuit. A three way switch used in conjunction with another three way switch also breaks only the hot (black) side of the circuit, but it does it in two different configurations for the two different switch positions.

I have a plug outlet that's powered by a three

Red wire is the live wire, black wire is the dead wire, white wire is the earth wire.
Now its the black and the red wire we are to play with. take a two wire cable, let the wires be red and black in the new cable, connect the red and the black cables of the new cable to the corresponding red and black wires of the old cable i.e. the new cable is to be connected parallel to the old cable(the connections can be made by ripping the old cable from any point) now connect a switch to the other end of the red wire. attach the terminal of the bulb to:
1) the the other terminal of the switch
2) the other end of the black wire
