The cd you inserted was not compatible with your cd rom. inorder to read all cds you must use cd roms that supports up 60x speed your only have 24x speed thats y it cant read cds that has above 24x.

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or
your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program
you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in or
you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device
control panel admistrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or
select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall

or
you could run the check disk utility
click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive

How do I backup my files and folders in XP?

Windows XP comes with a backup tool called NTBACKUP (NTBACKUP.MSI from Windows XP CD-ROM). In Windows XP Home Edition, this tool has to be installed manually from the CD-ROM, whereas in Windows XP Professional, this tool is installed by default.
Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file in the following location on the Windows XP Home Edition CD to start a wizard that installs NTBackup: X:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP
X:\ refers to the CD-ROM drive-letter
Note: Usually, OEMs such as Compaq, DELL won't ship the Windows XP CD nor they include the NTBACKUP utility by default. You can download a copy of NTBACKUP.MSI here

Backing up your files using NTBackup Utility:
Click Start, Run and type NTBACKUP
Select Backup tab at the top
In the left pane, scroll to the file/folder which you want to backup and put a checkmark on it.
At the bottom, mention the output filename (the backup output)
Once set, click Start Backup button in the right, and again click Start Backup in resulting dialog

NTBACKUP does not have the ability to write to CDs directly. You will need to save the backup to hard drive, then transfer or burn it to a CD-ROM. Also, while backing up several files, make sure you backup the files in separate sets of each max 650MB (so that it fits on a CD-ROM)
See also FREE Windows Backup Software add-on for NTBackup
Enhanced Windows Backup uses Windows' built in backup engine called Windows Backup (ntbackup.exe) which provides state-of-the-art core backup technology. Enhanced Windows Backup substantially extends the capabilities of NTBackup, providing an effective integrated backup solution.

Lenovo T43 laptop is making clicking sounds pretty frequently while on. Still functions, but am worried. Thanks in advance.

Usually that indicates a hard drive issue. Many times that means it's failing to find the sector it's looking for. Try running defrag utility under the system tools icon in the accessories menu in the programs. If that doesn't solve it, go to my computer icon and open it and right click on the hard drive icon and click properties and tools and run ckdisk for errors. Sometimes the clicking can also be in your CD ROM drive where it is looking for a file or program there. Put a CD in it and see if it makes the same sound. This is assuming you have windows XP

Hp CD\DVD rom not reading CDs, but is reading DVDs?

cd/dvd rom is probably not working ,try using a lense cleaner disc if that doesn't work it's cheap enough to just install a new drive DVD/Rw as they are about £20.00 new.

Windows xp wont reload

This happens so much with upgrades! We think we are making our pc's better, and then find it doesn't like it. I am assuming you completely uninstalled millenium, then tried to load xp? If you did not, the registry still has parts of millenium on it, and is asking for this. You need to completely uninstall millenium first. You need to obtain mill copy, and select uninstall, then when done, put in your new xp disk and try again. Lilacgerry xxx
