My ge front loader will not spin. the door is locked and shut. it goes into the cycle just fine and I can even hear the motor that wants to make the drum spin but the drum will not spin it will not even spin when I try to spin it what is the problem

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Does it drain ? Won't spin if it hasn't drained, and most will lock the door if they still have water inside. Don't have the GE front loaders in my country, so can't be of much more help. Sorry

This sounds like your filter is clogged. Why would a filter have anything to do with spinning. When the filter is clogged the machine senses that the pump has not completed pumping out and will not allow it to spin. Sometimes it won't allow a spin at all, sometimes it will spin but only slowly. To see if this is your issue, pull the flexible drain hose out just a bit so you can watch the flow and use the drain and spin cycle. The flow should resemble a garden hose. Access to the filter via the lower front face, remove 3 screws at base of the machine - the front lower cover comes off. The filter toward the right side, about 2.5 inches in diameter - turn counter clockwise about 3 turns the filter tray will come out.

SOURCE: front loader wont spin

Hello there:
It doesn't spin If your washer won't spin, check these: If the motor is running, the lid switch may be defective. If so, the washing machine can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it The motor coupler may be broken. Many Whirlpool®-manufactured washers use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. You may need to replace it. A belt may be broken. Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.) The clutch may be worn. If your washer is a GE, it may use a clutch to come up to the proper spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit from spinning well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician. The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor. The transmission may not be shifting properly. Older washers produced by Whirlpool® have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may drain the water but not spin. This is a complex system, if your washer has a shifter problem, you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it. The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle.

My front load GE washer is filling with water and draining but doesnt spin, exept for the first two spins when started

it isnt the door lock or it would not work on the first 2 spin cycles and unless you have huge out of balance loads the door(not lid as lids are only on top loaders) interlock probably isn't at fault. i would cleanout the tub to pump trap inspect the pump for blockage and flush the discharge hose. it doesn't cost a penny to do this and has fixed many front loaders with the same problem

I have a frigidaire affinity front loader washer that the final spin cycle won't work on. The rest of the wash cycle is fine and the basket spins for the other cycles just not the spin cycle. It is also...

There is an auxiliary switch in the door lock and switch assembly that is activated at the end of the wash cycle for the machine to advance to the spin cycle. This is a safety feature to prevent the door from opening during the spin cycle and the machine will not spin unless the switch is activated. The machine works except advancing to the spin cycle and this signifies that the auxiliary switch cannot be activated and the door lock and switch assembly is faulty. Replaced the door lock and switch assembly (part #131763202) to address the issue.

Disconnect power to the machine. Open the washer door then look for the retaining hoop securing the door seal around the lip of the door opening. Stretch the retainer spring of the door seal retaining hoop then remove it.

Carefully peel off part of the door seal from the lip of the door opening near the door lock and switch assembly. Remove enough of the door seal to gain access to the door lock and switch assembly.

Remove the screws securing the door lock and switch assembly to the front panel. Once the screws are removed, lift the door lock and switch assembly then pull it away from the front panel.

Take the door lock and switch assembly out of the machine. Disconnect the electrical connections then connect it to the new door lock and switch assembly.

Put the new door lock and switch assembly back into position in the front panel and secure it with the securing screws.

Properly put the eased part of the door seal back over the lip of the door opening then secure it with the retaining hoop.

Washer will not spin The washer is a frigidaire front loader model LTF2140E53. will cycle through all settings, but will not spin. Cycle ends with clothes soaked.

I have thata probelm a lot too. I have read that the controls don't sense that the door fully shut. You might try slamming it shut, jiggling the door, poking in the hole where the latch goes. When mine won;t spin, slamming and jiggling works.

Does the washer go throught he whole cycle and just not spin? Or does it just shut down? If it goes the the whole cycle, You either have a bad door switch or a bad control board. Replace the door switch first. Then the control board 2nd. Door switch is a very common problem with these washer.

Kenmore 417.29042992 front loader washer

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.

GE Front Loader Washer - Not washing

It sound like a lid switch issue. If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. Look that the switch is not broken or loose. If all is fine, you should replace the switch. Good luck!
