I Finally figured it out after playing with it for almost 1/2 an hour!

Hit 2nd then Tax + (rate set) it will appear as 0.000 enter your tax rate... mine is 5% so I enter 5.0 then hit 2nd and Tax + (rate set again) And it will work!

It is glorious!!!

Solution #1 has it backward..
(tax rate), STR, TAX+ (or TAX-)
Example- San Francisco sales tax = 9.5% you enter 9.5, STR, TAX+.
now it functions as (amount entered) plus tax. Example- find the total with tax for a purchase of $14.99 14.99, TAX+ Calculator will show 16.41

Need to change tax function on Sharp EL-334A

I had the same problem and finally figured it out. Here's what you do:

Press C-CE twice
Press +TAX (Rate set)
Key in your new tax rate as an integer (e.g. 5)
Press +Tax (Rate set) again
Press C-CE

Then you're ready to calculate with the new rate!

Now what's the GT button for?
