I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER! this is a strange method so bare with me (found the solution on another site) turn on the camera and then hold it upside down then for want of a better word "tap" the camera near the lens (i tapped the mic in front of the flash) and hey presto your image will return! dont ask me what this does as i have no clue, it might have the same error after you switch off the cam but just follow the same method and it will show images. or if your not happy giving your camera a slap then speak to JVC or any camera repair centre. heres then link where i found this solution www.avforums.com/forums/camcorders-video-editing/690055-jvc-ccd-lens-cap-error-claim-deadline-extended.html

The problem is with the ccd in the camera. Here in aust JVC have a free replacement policy at all JVC authorised repairers. The ccd was outsourced and is plain ****, but at least JVC recognised the prob. They have no warranty time limitations on this issue
Without the lens, the lcd screen is useless. The screens are pretty delicate and is probably broken if all you can see is white. Try it in a dark room. More than likely the on-imager screen is trashed. Try plugging a vcr / cam-corder into the video output on the device and you should get a picture there. Unfortunately, this limits your portability for the device. But you should be able to use it and the plus is that you can record your output.
I know this is an old post, but this model (along with many others) was subject to a product recall due to a fauly part. This is a known problem and was being dealt with by JVC free of charge.
I called JVC @ 800-252-5722. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" prompt from the automated attendent. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of the problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call ASAP and get your name in the computer. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call you with the estimate to repair.
JVC will repair for free some camcorder models that suffer from the LENS CAP error. The repairs are free until OCTOBER 1, 2007 only so hurry up and see if your model is listed at http://www.jvcservice.com/service/custnoticecamcorder.asp?ReqType=CCD
