Ok, a couple of stupid questions here - it sounds like you have posted this before. If so, I did not see the post or responses, so forgive me if I repeat anything. At the bottom of that screen it should say Restore. Does it, and have you pressed this? Also, have you tried resetting the unit either with the reset button or using the master reset? What happened?

I bought a Garmin 1450 but Ican't seem to register

  • To register your garmin you connect it to your computer with the mini USB cable
  • Go to www.garmin.com and select your country from the drop-down list
  • Click on the "myGarmin" tab at the top of the screen
  • Click on "Register your garmin product" at the left side of the screen
  • Click on "Automotive" and follow the prompts.
You'll be asked to create a username and password. Keep them safe as you'll need them anytime you want to update your maps.

If you want to set a PIN number on your satnav which it will look for each time you turn it on;
  • Press TOOLS on the bottom right corner of the screen which shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP
  • Press SETTINGS
  • Press SECURITY
  • Press GARMIN LOCK
It will ask you for a 4 digit pin. Also you'll be given the option to set a secure location. Be sure to do so and use a place that you can get to easily and where you have around 20 feet clear space around you. If you forget the PIN number the only way to remove the pin is to go to this secure location. As the GPS is not 100% accurate when you return to this location the satnav may think you're a few feet out and you may need to move around for it to unlock. This is why you need the space around where you set it.

I cant get my computer to operate in windows normal mode and i cant get to reboot to originao settings acer 5738z, i bought a recovery disc but cant even get this to load as can nly have laptop on in...

I believe you should try LKGC (Last Known Good configuration) before using a recovery disc.

Follow the steps below,

Step 1: Shut down your PC completely.
Step 2: Turn on the Power button.
Step 3: As soon as you turn it on start hitting the F8 key on your keyboard until you get to a black screen called "Windows Advanced option". (If you don't get to that that screen but you end up reaching the blue screen than that means you have delayed in hitting the F8 key. start again from step 1.)
Step 4: As soon as you reach "Windows Advanced option" use your down arrow keys to choose an option called "Last know good configuration".
Step 5: Select that and HIT ENTER.

Computer says loading personal settings then just sits there, will not boot any further

Hi, There is an issue with your User profile on the computer. The option that you can do is to boot to safe mode with networking, you need to press F8, after you turn on the computer to get to the boot menu screen to choose safemode with networking. then choose to log in to admin account. After logging in kindly create a new user account. And then reboot to normal mode again and log on to the new user account you created. If you cannot log on to safemode with networking, you can choose the Last Known Good Configuration option.
Thank you for using Fixya, you recommendation is highly appreciated for the free support.

Screen goes black. the power light is on, but the picture goes out. if i turn the power off, then on again it comes back for about 5 seconds, then goes black again.

Check to see if this problem follows in safe mode. Reboot and when the Dell splash screen comes up tap F8 until you see the multiboot options. Scroll to "safe Mode with Networking" let the machine boot up and see if you have a screen. If you do, right click on the desktop and set the resolution to 800 X600 and reboot normally. Usually when a screen goes blank in normal mode but shows up in safe mode means you have an incompatible resolution for the monitor or graphics adapter. This may be a driver issue or hardware. If the screen boots up in normal mode at the lower resolution, then try and go to properties again and bump the resolution up a bit, if it blanks again, try to go online and update the driver for the graphics chip.

Screen blank

Sounds like its simply going into power save mode. Does your screen come back on when you move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard? Is the computer still on? Check your power options in control panel.

Safe mode business

safe mode automatically comes up when you didn't shut down properly. Just select boot as normal or last known good configuration then you are good to go.

uninstall any new hardware or software you have recently installed to cause the problem in the first place. If you haven't installed anything then windows should just start normally.

good luck

Garmin 550

Safe mode only prevents you from using the complicated while you're in motion.

Garmin lock prevents people from using it without knowing the 4 digit pin.

If you turn on Garmin Lock while you're at home, it will automatically unlock the unit when you're at home. Otherwise you'll have to remember the 4 digit pin to unlock the unit.

The Safe mode can definitely be disabled when you're on the road. Not so sure about the Garmin Lock since it's supposed to prevent a burglar from using it.
