I am having the same problem. I checked all of my connections although the computer was definatley "talking" to the printer. I have tried re-setting the system (turning it on & off). I confirmed that I had installed the ink cartridge correctly. I have obtained another ink cartridge and replaced the new one initially replaced (thinking that the cartridge was too old). I have used the utility on the system to clean the printer (inkjets...) wasting ink. I continue to have the same problem, no printing!! HELP! I about to the point of purchasing another printer.

Yes, I have the same problem. I have changed the cartridge and the printer acts printer but comes out blank paper. I have uninstalled, then reinstalled the printer again first with parellel connection then went to USB connection. I have also clean the head, nevertheless the printer acts the same problem. What should I do?

Same problem! This is the last Epson I buy. I have an HP All-in-one that has lasted me almost nine years. This thing is junk after a couple of years.

I had the same problem as others report here. Because I have many, many used ink cartidges in all colors, I was hesitant to discard the printer. Nonetheless, that's what I did.  I just don't have days and days to devote to this. My advice for the future: Buy a printer with a disposable printhead such as HP. Indeed, I just bought an HP Photosmart C7280 for $129.98 at Staples. (I used my broken Epson Stylus C86 to take advantage of HP's $50 "trade in. trade up" offer.

I just bought new ink and nothing prints clearly

If it hasn't printed anything for a couple of years then the print heads will be severely clogged with dried ink. Epson recommends printing a page or two every month to keep the heads clear. You need to try cleaning the print heads, its unlikely that one or two head cleans will clear a badly clogged nozzle. Try doing 4 or 5 head cleans, wait about 10 hours for the ink to soften and do another 3 or 4 cleans with a nozzle check after each. You should see a gradual improvement in the nozzle checks. If there is no improvement then you need a head cleaning solution such as this one:
Others are available just try googling "inkjet head cleaning".
Note that head cleaning uses between 5 and ten percent of your ink cart's, if any are low on ink, have some new ones ready.
If you need to know how to do head cleans & nozzle checks, the user guide can be downloaded from Epson here:

Hope this helps.
Please take a moment to rate this solution, thanks.

C86 Epson printer will not print.

Please see your user manual for the meaning of the various light combinations, or if you don't have one, see:

and look at "Diagnosing Printer Problems".

BOBDOYLE - can you confirm which red light is flashing? If it is the ink light, see the instructions for changing ink cartridges. If it is the paper jam light, check for a paper jam. If you still cannot fix it, come back with a new comment giving any further information.

If this advice was helpful, please rate it.

Blank printing

If you have already done head cleaning and nozzle check 3 consecutive times from the computer and has tried reseating all the ink cartridges and it still acts likes its printing but just prints out a blank page chances are your product already has a hardware issue. If you product is still within the 1-year warranty period from date it was purchased, I suggest that you contact Epson tech support for more options otherwise, you would need to get the product repaired by servicer located in your area. Printer not printing

I hate Epson. Had problems with Stylus C82 and now my replacement Stylus C86 has given me nothing but trouble.
I've just replaced all four ink cartridges and now when I print I'm only getting blank pages. I uninstalled, reinstalled, and nothing is working. I even called Epson, twice, only to be routed to the Phillipines where neither person was very helpful, in fact, had a hard time understanding their English. So this is what I;m going to do. I'm taking this bloody Stylus C86 outside and smash it with a hammer..then I'm going to buy a HR Printer...and if anybody from Epson reads this...good luck...your products SUCK!!

Printer will not print

Ren, Does the printer show the cartridges have been changed? If the printer doesn't recognize the new cartridges, turn off the computer and unhook the printer, unplug the printer from the computer and electric. Turn on the computer so it boots without the printer hooked up,(2x) then shut down again. Rehook the printer and plug it in then reboot the system. You can also find updated drivers from epson from here. Good Luck, Tim
