Code "F3" is highlighted on Key Panel

F3 usually means a problem with the control panel. There may be a corroded component or a power surge damaged the unit. Sometimes a little water will get into the keypad and cause the problem.

First try unplugging the unit for ten minutes. That may reset error code. (For built-in units, you can try flipping the circuit breaker to off or removing the trim to reach the power cord.)

If that fails, unplug the microwave again. You can remove the vent by unscrewing the top screws. Open the door to get the vent free. Then unscrew another screw to tip the keypad down (push up at the bottom of the panel). Disconnect the wires from the circuit board and remove the screws. Remove the circuit board and the shield behind it. Check over all of the pieces for dirt or signs of corrosion. (Clean gently.) Let everything dry (or use a hairdryer to dry all sides of the components). Then replace the parts in the reverse order. Plug in the microwave and check for the error.

If that fails, replace the control panel. One source for parts is http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/microwaves/ge/jvm1640sj.html .

I hope this helps. It may be cheaper to replace the microwave.

Microwave venting

Is it a combo built into the oven or stand alone?
If its build into something then no.
If its free standing look under the microwave and see if there are air vents in it. If there are are they clean. Microwaves dont vent persay, they just blow hot air out. You dont want to modifity the case because it will expose you to direct and scatter Microwaves. And that is not good.
A easy fix. When you are done making a TV dinner or whatever, keep the door open for a while. The microwave is hot and it will evaporate.
If there is standing water in it, contact the company and get them to fix it, but checking for proper intake and venting is needed. Meaning make sure they are clean.

Micro has a message F3 and and none of the controls work when i push the buttons

You have one of 2 problems, an open Thermocouple or a bad control panel DISCHARGE high voltage components first with no power applied prior to touching anything in the unit. Failure to discharge High Voltage Components can result in death

It is all of a sudden beeping and there is a -F3- in the screen area. What do I do. It is a above the stove microwave. And has never done this.

hello,

The -F3- is an error code indication temperature sensing error. There is a chance that there is a loose wire connection from it position.

what you need to do to fix up this problem is to unscrew (open)the oven trace the wire down to the screen and also to the panel clean then fix up the loose wire back to it position then clean up all form of water or liquid you can fine around the wire and the control panel with this the problem of f3 code is solve.

than you.

While cleaning it the vent began to open and close and the microwave would not shut the vent down when the keypad was used to end the cycle. Now it only shows F3 on its screen when we try to set it up...

The "F3" error code means "Shorted key panel (touch pad)". The correction is to replace the key panel aka a membrane switch or a touch pad. The control panel in that case is just a plastic frame.
