Drive not being recognized

I bought a Fantom Titanium II 500Gb from Tiger Direct and plugged it into my PC (Windows ME). It stated that no driver could be found and did i want to search for one. I did and no driver was found. I was never given a disk with the driver. I'm not sure that's the problem because I can't see the external drive under My Computer - and the tool bar doesn't show that a plug-in device is there... In general - what should I do next?

Thanks,
Ben

I have a 300 Gig HDD and it all of a sudden went MIA and will not come back. I have tried different cables, different computers. It has not worked on any of them. Nothing has worked. The Fantom People are about useless, I used the online support email and i told them the problem and they have not gotten back to me with any sort of an answer. They are worthless. That is just my opinion though.

    pc does not reconise harddrive?????

I purchased a Fantom Titanium II 500 GB USB/Firewire Hard Drive from Tiger Direct a couple of months ago in anticipation of using it to input HD

video files for editing next week, infact. I installed it and formatted it, and

then turned it off. Yesterday I turned it on and my computer didn't show it

as a K drive. After fiddling with all the plugs, unplugging, plugging, and

turning things on and off, I got it recognized and turned it off satisfied that it

was ready for today's use. WRONG!! It is not recognized after unplugging,

plugging and turning things off and on...again! I have it plugged in with

Firewire, which is what Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 wants.

    What do I do now?!?

I can not install the drive on one of my computers. The manual provided states no drivers are required for windows XP which I'm using however, the system does not recognize it. No drivers or any other software were provided with the drive.

Have you tried this in another PC with, say, WinXP? If it worked then it may be 1 of 2 problems:
1) Driver Issue- you may use a compatible driver and not necessarily a "Fantom" driver. WinME needs drivers for these devices unlike WinXP
2) The USB port is not giving enough power to the drive for it to run (a problem common in older PCs). I have an external USB harddisk that needs to use 2 USB ports in my old Dell laptop since 1 USB port can't supply the power it needs. The cable should have a dual-USB jack on one end, this is so you could use the power from the other USB port.

Hope this helps

I have a Fantom Drives Titanium II 500GB external drive that cannot be seen by my computer. I receive the error USB Device is Not Recognized. I've tried it on a different computer with the same problem. ...

It's all about the drivers. Just go to the manufacture's website, go to download or support tab, download the drivers. Then once they are downloaded, double-click on the file so it installs itself into your pc, then restart pc and you should be good to go.

I can not locate a driver for my Fantom Titanium II (TFD500C16) 500 GB USB Hard Drive. Do you know where?

Your device should not need drivers Fte Fantom/Titanium drives are fully supported by both Windows and Mac OS's.
Try replacing the cable or using a different USB port.
Sorry I cannot be of more help, The drive itself may be damaged, You can test this by physically removing the drive itself from the case and installing it internally to your system....If the drive functions properly, then the problem is within the board inside the casing.

My mac G4 not recognize my 500GB external FantomDrive. HD light is on but Mac can't see it!

If you bought it from a friend, then ask them to reformat it for you as a FAT32 partition. Mac can not see NTFS, which most Windows users use since you get more space on the drive.

If it is brand new and your G4 isn't recognizing it, then I would return it for a new one. I don't trust things that aren't working out of the box, especially when they charge so much for things.

Server can't detect USB hard drive

Hello, Assuming you're running windows 200 or newer, no drivers required. If it is not detecting in device manager the shell is likely damaged and simply needs to be replaced. If it does show up, and the drive does not the the drive is likely damaged and you will most likely require professional help recovering the files. If the latter is the case please state you location(country and city) and I will recommend an appropriate facility to assist you. Chris
