If the printer is displaying the paper out message on the display this may be because the Paper Sensor needs to be calibrated for the type of paper being used in the printer. The Paper Sensor on the T6218 is an optical sensor that reflects light off the back of the paper, different coloured paper or different paper finish may mean the paper sensor needs to be recalibrated.
The T6218 has a facility to calibrate the paper out sensor. This option is within the Technical Access Menu.
To access the technical access menu put the T6218 offline then press and hold down the LINE FEED and ENTER BUTTONS both at the same time, and keep the buttons held down for approximately 5-6 seconds until TECHNICAL ACCESS ON flashes up on the display.
Once Technical Access had been enabled the Paper Out Sensor routine can be accessed via the menu on the printer.
1. With the printer OFFLINE , press the MENU button
2. Press the DOWN ARROW to TEST, press ENTER
3. Press the DOWN ARROW to DIAG, press ENTER
4. Press the DOWN ARROW until CALIBRATION is displayed, press ENTER
5. Press the DOWN ARROW until PAPER OUT is displayed, press ENTER
6. Follow the instructions on the display which will advise to remove the paper, then reinsert the paper. Once this has been carried out this should calibrate the paper out sensor.
If you are unable to access the Menu on the printer because the printer is displaying the Paper Out Message, you can turn on the FAULT OVERIDE by
pressing and holding down FORM FEED and ENTER, until the printer displays FAULT OVER RIDE ON after you have enabled the TECHNICAL ACCESS menu, this will then let you calibrate paper out sensor.
If calibrating the paper out sensor does not resolve the issue there may be a fault with the paper out sensor, a connectivity problem or a logic problem.
Happend twice to me. What sometimes happens is that the paper roll was not changed at the time the ink was. Therefore the paper roll was allowed to remain in the printer until the very last sheet. On the last sheet there is a sticker that says paper out. (stupid idea) This sticker makes the last sheet of paper too thick to fit through the last paper guide / feed. Because of this, the ink film breaks and that specific error message is displayed until that last piece of 4x6 is pulled from the paper feed. Clear that out, and all is good.. Change the paper every time u change the ink.
