Garmin Foretrex 101 won't respond to pushed buttons

When I place fresh batteries in the GPS, the unit starts up but won't respond to a push on any buttons or a push and hold on any buttons. I have to remove the batteries to charge down. Is there any way to reset the unit?

I have assumed that the Foretrex had seen its last, so I have moved on to a new Foretrex 205 instead.

While this may not be a fully working solution, have you guys tried pressing and holding the page button while at the same time pressing power. hold them in for a while and see what happens. it might just work. mine is sort of working after doing it a couple of times. page+power same time and hold longer than 5 sec just to be sure.

I plugged in my Garmin Nuvi 40LM to the computer and got the updates. But my keyboard is still not responding correctly. I push 5 and get a 6 or push T and get a Y. Any ideas?

Try recalibrating the display. Turn off the Nuvi. Place your finger on the upper left-hand corner of the screen and hold it there while pushing down on the power button to turn the unit on. Release the power button when the Garmin logo appears. Continue to press on the upper left-hand corner of the screen until you see the calibration screen.

Press all of the dots as they are presented. Once completed the Nuvi will display Calibration Complete

This will recalibrate your touchscreen to the LCD display. If this doesn't resolves your problem. then your touchscreen may be defective.

Garmin foretrex 301 will not power up

Replace it. I think the battery is dead and unless you are up for cracking open the case it is done done for... You can always try a mast rest first though... Just google that one.

Can i find the serial number for my foretrex 401 on the box?

Look at this link, it says that the serial number is under the battery compartment holder / battery cover: http://www.littlefireants.com/Foretrex301_OwnersManual.pdf
See page 1

My GARMIN nuvi works well on battery. When I plug it into the car chargeing outlet, I get a display of a unit plugged into an electricial outlet and the GARMIN will not respond. Acts like its locked up....

Sometimes this is caused by the mini USB plug not being pushed fully into the back of the satnav although it feels as if it is. Pushing it in further may solve your problem.

Water inside Garmin, so no display.

This was recommended by Coopers4508 under the Forerunner 201 thread, and it worked equally well for my Foretrex 101.
As Coops said:
I know it sounds crazy, but worked without damage. Placed the forerunner in a table vice (long end to end) and gently applied pressure, opened right up.
It worked perfect for me - just be sure to compress slowly and listen for the separation of the centre seam. A very tidy solution.

Garmin fortrex 101 won't aquire any satelites

Does it pick up any at all? you need 3 to get a fixed posistion. If you see one or two picking up then it may be your location. Also try doing a firmware update, I have seen that fix this problem on other units.

Connecting Garmin Foretrex to PC

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I have been having problems downloading the wayponts but not the tracks. I use Street Atlas USA and have NO problems downloading all data with my garmin GPS12. I notified garmin about this problem. To see if your gps is recieving data try using the geocaching.com web site. Sign up [ it is free ] and click on an icon cache in yoir area, then click on send to gps. You will be prompted to download free software to use it. Once it is installed, try the above option again. You will get a menu that shows devices shown. Look for the fortrex and send it to the gps. Make sure your gps is in " GARMIN " mode for the interface. If it shows your fortrex then it is communicating with it. Download the cache to your fortrex and then look at it in the waypoint file of the gps. The web site is :http://www.geocaching.com/

Foretrex 101

You may have the contrast set wrong. After power up, wait about 15 sec. and use the arrow keys to adjust the contrast. Do not use any othe keys. This may be the problem. If not, try an auto reset.
