Disconnect power from printer for 30 seconds. Hold down # and 6 at same time when you plug it back in.

Unfortunately, if an HP scanner quits functioning, the whole unit is dead. You may want to unplug the printer from its power source and USB cable for about 5 minutes, plug them all back in and then retry. Sometimes, a scanner job can get stuck in the spooler and cause the whole thing to stop working until the job is done (even though there isn't a job to do). I had this issue once and this worked.

How do I solve the "scanner failure power off and on again" message for an h.p. 6110 officjet all-in-one printer/scanner/fax?

Hi Paul,

Scanner Failure usually results in Hardware Failure. However there is one step you can try. Try connecting the printer directly to wall outlet or any other power outlet and the issue should be resolved.

My HP Photosmart C5240 will print from computer but will not scan or make copies.

Is there any error message displayed on the control panel of the printer just like one of the following:
Scanner failure, power off and on
Scanner System Failure
Scanner failed, cannot make copies or fax
Scanner failure. Unable to scan, copy, or send a fax
Scanner failure, cycle power

You may want to try following these steps:
1. Check if the scanner light does turn on when you initiated the scanning process, if not you need to reset the product.
2. Try using your other electrical outlet because your AVR or Surge Extension may not be providing enough voltage for the printer.
3. Try using dirty cycle, meaning you need to directly cut the power of your printer by pulling of the power cord from the rear side of your printer and wait for about 30 seconds before inserting again and turn it on.

If all these steps do not improve your printer functionality, you may want to call the HP online help and ask for replacement.

My cx3200's control panel reads scanner error. I unlocked the transportation lock, turned off, turned on. It stayed off for about 2 minutes then came right back on. While the error light was off tried to...

The only things that can cause a scanner error on this unit is a complete scanner harware failure or the scanner lock. With the unit on lock the transport lock and unlock it a few times quite forcibly. Then leave it in the unlocked position and power off and on again. If the light returns then at his point I think a new printer will be needed.

The error message reads: "Scanner failure. Turn power off the on again." When I do that, it just gives the same error message again.

You have a bad scanner unit. Getting it repaired will cost as much as buying a new machine.

Scanner failure during the initalization/starts up.

Sound as if your scanner is broken..
Could be something in there stopping it from moving, the motor could be bad.
It might have Home Positioning errors, causing this error.
To get it Fixed? The machine is about 140 dollars on Amazon?
The company I work for, the first hour is 125 (I do not know how much it cost to repair these)
Unfortunately these little ink jet printers are not designed to be repaired. They are considered throw away.
Sorry

Scanner Failure Message keeps popping up

Here it is all over, with all the steps.

1.Unplug power cable from printer.

2.Hold Cancel and Enter. OR you could Hold Cancel and Black Copy Button. Whichever is easier

3.Then plug back in the power cable, while still holding those 2 buttons.

4.It should turn on, lights blink, then it should say FULL RESET on the little screen thingy .

5.Let go of the buttons, and hopefully, it fixed your problem.
