Contrast window pops up and dims the screen.

Contrast window pops up and dims the screen. Pushing the up arrow button and the 1 button accesses the powerlock screen and makes it go away. pushing the 1 button to bring up the menu does nothing. the only thing that seems to work is the powerlock setting. The contrast window pops up quite frequently and is driving me nuts. After a 4 day email session with viewsonic they came to the conclusion that my monitor has a problem and needs diagnosis and repair.

You are not alone. I have a Viewsonic monitor that does exactly the same thing. Wasn't sure if it was the monitor or a "bug".

The contrast of my calculation is low
Turn calculator ON.
Press the Menu button.
Use arrows to get to the SYSTEM icon.
Press Left Arrow to decrease contrast or Right Arrow to increase contrast (darken the screen.
If the screen is not legible (too light or too dark) you use ALPHA E to access the System menu.

How do you turn on the Backlight on the screen?
If the screen backlight is not on, first try adjusting the brightness.
Press TV/AV button on remote to select TV mode. Press the MENU button on the remote. Using the arrow keys (navigation buttons), choose picture mode and adjust the brightness and contrast.
If your TV screen is still not lighting up in a dim room, then the backlight is broken.
You have 90 days labor and 1 year parts from date of purchase.

No display
It is possible that you have dimmed it.
To adjust screen contrast
  1. Press [SHIFT][MODE] to access (SETUP)
  2. What should be displayed (even if you cannot see it) is the left part of the screen capture below.
  3. By pressing the Down arrow the second page of options should be displayed (even if you cannot see it).
  4. Press 6 to open the contrast adjustment screen (you will not see it either).
  5. Press repeatedly on the [+] key until something appears on the screen.
If you followed these instructions correctly and failed to make the display visible, then there may be some hardware damage to your calculator.

Hasn't been used for a while and now won't turn on...changed batteries
Very likely that the screen contrast changed after the replacement of batteries.Some times screen becomes too dark or too dim.
If it does not seem to turn ON that may be because screen is too dim that you cannot see anything and cannot be sure it is ON.

To darken the screen:
  1. Press the ON button
  2. Press [2nd] key and release it.
  3. Press and HOLD the Up Arrow.
  4. Keep at it until screen starts showing something.

Casio CFX-9850GB Plus calculator will not switch on when AC/on pressed, all 4 AAA and 3v backup battery are new.
If it is just a matter of the screen being too dim, you can actually increase the contrast.

  1. Turn calculator ON
  2. Press [MENU] even if you do not see anything
  3. Press [ALPHA][COS] sequence to access the letter E.
  4. Press repeatedly the Right Arrow till the contrast is adequate.

HP Compaq nc6000. When power is connected the display brightness dims and becomes bright when it is disconnected. It should work exactly the other way.
You can adjust the brightness by holding down the Fn key while pushing the brightness adjusting buttons, usually marked with pictures of sun! in most laptops they are tow F keys or Arrow up and Arrow down. Dont know your modell. Set the brightness/contrast in on battery and power accordingly!

Ti84 plus, screen problem
  1. Press and release the gold [2nd] button. Verify that the blinking up arrow appears in the display.
  2. Press and hold the blue up or down arrow key to increase or decrease contrast, until the display is to your liking. Be alert: the display will change quickly.
The calculator will remember your contrast setting; you don’t have to adjust it every time you turn the calculator on.

The Contrast screen pops on all the time
It looks like your UP button contact is demaged.
SOLUTION is to insert a piece from your business card mostly above the button to adjust it down or up. It works fine.
