You must have got a CD with the printer. Just install it and load the paper in the scanner and press the scan button on the front panel. It automatically starts to scan and shows you the document. Later it will ask you whether to save it as a JPG file (as image) or a PDF file (document).

Canon pixma mp500 will not scan a document. My ink is low but that should not matter, I just want to scan a document to PDF.

Same Problem - Had nothing but issues with Cannon - Very hungry on ink as well :( Still not as bad as HP

How do i scan a document?

Have you completed the software installation? There will be a step by step explanation on how to scan. But first, when you go to "My" computer" or "Computer" in Vista, you should see an icon of your scanner or All in one unit. If not you need to reinstall the drivers"disc" . The simply place a document face down on the glass go to the
'properties" tab and choose where you want to save the document. Then press"scan" on the unit. You should have two start buttons black for black and white, andgreen for color documents, Let me know how you make out.

Won't scan

The scanning feature is much more sensitive to connection signal strength than the printing function. Make sure the USB connection is firmly in place on both the computer and the MP500. If this doesn't fix the problem I would try a different 6 foot length USB cable.

PIXMA MP500 - no idea how to scan an image from printer to MACOSX

You should be able to go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, under that list you should see Scanner and Camera Wizard. Once the scanner and camera wizard starts up follow the directions they give you there. Just make sure before you do all that, that the document is on the scanner ready to be scanned.

Canon mp500 onlt scans part of the page

I was very frustrated by this problem too, but just found a fix at last!!

Instead of focussing on the settings on the scanner itself. Use the MP navigator software to change scan settings and get around this problem. there you can set document size, colour or black and white and even DPI (quality) .

Scanning with Canon Pixma MP450

I just did it then! With help from solution posted Feb 08 leave the acual scanner alone can be done from the computer. Steps:

1. Go to - start - control panel - printers & hardware - scanners.
2. Once inside the scanners folder just click once on the scanner icon (mine is called WIA Canon) so it is highlighted.
3. Then click on the toolbar 'File' > 'scan', then select the correct program from the list (mine was MP Navigator 2).
4. Use the MP Navigator program to select "scan photo/document", follow the instructions. At the bottom if the window that is open you can change the document type to PHOTO or DOCUMENT!

This is where the problem lies it is scanning the document as a photo which is why it is coming out as multiple documents.

PIXMA MP500

The number 5 is a Pigment text black while the number 8 is a dye photo black. The text black is for black text mainly and the photo black is for use when printing photos. Since the text black is always running out it means you are printing a lot of documents in plain paper mode.

I recommend using QUALITY refill ink like Hobbicolors which is sold on eBay and will save you a bundle of money. The MP830 is a 5 ink printer so you need the 5 ink kit like the IP4300.
