If it kept going to recovery mode that means your device firmware is corrupted...in that case what you can do is to contact dell so they can provide you with the firmare upgrade or you can follow the link below and that should solve the problems you are having...

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R96127&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=124571

If that doesnt solve it you can format your player inside windows media player..NOT MY COMPUTER...and then that should reset the firmware as well..

MY tv that goes straight to the screensaver mode like it would on pc. sony bravia kdl32nl140 is the tv.

J, it sounds like it may not be getting any input from cable or satellite, try switching cable and inputs around, try VCR or DVD player. You may need a firmware or software update.
Some forums say to unplug and wait 10 min. then it resets.
Check links below.

Hold play button while inserting a paperclip into reset opening on dell dj. Release paperclip while still holding play. Recovery mode should come up hopefully.

Firmware Reload

well, after a lot of research and frustration, I found a site that had links to the right firmware versions so I could fix it! I also had to dig into the pit of despair that is my storage bins and thankfully I was able to find the CD that came with my DJ to give my computer the drivers it needed to recognize the DJ...

http://www.gotzune.com/forums/showthread.php?p=60383#post60383 go to that link and look towards the bottom for the link to your version of firmware that you need... ftp://ftp.dell.com/app/R74011.exe <--- that one worked for me!

thankfully, I was able to fix it by doing that, but not before I had to delete all the data from it in a sad attempt to make it work when it was stuck in recovery mode :( but I have all the good stuff on my computer, so it's probably better that I cleaned it up because I had too much **** on there that I didn't listen to anymore...

Dj ditty

Reset, make sure lock is not engaged, then
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

My Dell DJ

there is a tiny hole on the bottom of the player this is a reset button. push a pin or something into the hole and hold it there for a few seconds to reset the player(you shouldn't lose anything from the hard drive)
