That is weird, maybe try to reset it by taking the batteries out and then putting them back in and starting it from scratch. Electronic problems....yikes.

Some symptoms of a defective CCD include distorted images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures, and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash card. A problem has been discovered in some of the CCDs used in Panasonic, Fuji, Sony and Canon digital camera and digital video camera products that causes images to appear distorted or not to appear at all. And the says apologize for the considerable inconvenience this represents for your customers. Along with our respectful apology, we would like to advise our customers of the details of this issue and our policy for handling it, which are as follows.

The Malfunction:
Among the CCDs used in the affected products listed above, it has been confirmed that, especially under high-temperature/high-humidity environments, the internal wiring may come undone in some places.

If this defect occurs, the signal is not output from the CCD correctly when in shooting mode, which results in symptoms like the following in captured images. These symptoms can be confirmed on the LCD monitor. The same symptoms may also occur in recorded images:
* images do not appear
* images appear distorted

In order to correct this issue, the repair facility needs to replace the CCD. This is not something you may do on your own; this, isn't a good new, but hope helps to solve it.

Your CCD (image capture chip) has succumbed to a common problem with many earlier cameras (around 4+ years old). Fuji has had a policy of fixing this known defect at no charge, even though it's well past warranty. For more technical information about the problem, here's a link; http://www.imaging-resource.com/badccds.html
The problem was widespread as many camera manufacturers used a Sony made CCD. Once the problem was identified, it was corrected in the chip manufacturing stage, and has rarely, if ever, occurred since.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Purple screen

It appears your camera has a bad image sensor (CCD). Based on the model, it should still be under warranty. This is a warranty issue, that Fuji should look after. There is nothing you can do, yourself, to fix it. Even out of warranty, Fuji fixes many of these, as they acknowledge that the sensors were improperly manufactured. Take your camera and proof-of-purchase paperwork to the place of purchase, or directly to Fuji's national supplier.

In all these cases it appears the CCD (image recording circuit) has absorbed tiny amounts of moisture. These circuits are known to have been manufactured improperly. The only solution is replacement of major circuitry.

PURPLE LINES SHOWING ON SCREEN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TAKE PHOTOS

Your camera likely needs a new CCD imaging sensor. It is a cute little thing and is very expensive to replace. I've seen deals to repair any digital camera on eBay and I would check for a local repair person in your area. You can use the search on this site to see who might be close by. I have an A310 doing the same thing.
