Yes, buy an amp for the sub. Sub-pre-out to the amp IN. I'm pretty sure the manual would cover it.

my only question, though stupid, would be, did you plug the light wires into the stereo deck?

The Jensen XS1010 is a 4-ohm sub and should work properly off of the outputs of most any single channel monoblock sub amp or off a bridged 2-channel. You did not say what brand or type of amp you intend to use, but in any case, there's only 2 wires to connect to the sub, one positive (+) , the other negative (-). Simply match them up with the positive and negative on the amp speaker output and you are ready to bump.

I'd recommend downloading the XS1010 manual. They recommend an enclosure with at least .75 CuFt internal volume.

audiovox ownes jensen so you might try this site, but no js 1000 models are shown, however, jps 8"/10"/12" are and you can download pdf manuals. one may be comparable to yours. or you can contact their customer service and they may be able to help further.
