Xerox 5550DN The Printing Scout often disables tab key

Xerox 5550DN The Printing Scout often causes the Tab key to temporarily quit working. Is there a way to Disable the printing scout in the driver configuration. I know that I can uncheck the notify options on each computer after the driver has been installed. But, what I'm trying to find is where/how to disable these options in the configuration so that the notificcation options are already unchecked whenever the driver is installed.

Or is there a way to install the printer driver w/o installing printing scout?

This is getting really close to what I need to accomplish. Your instructions work when I am installing the driver on one pc at a time. What I'm really trying to accomplish (which I didn't fully explain in my original question-sorry) is to configure the driver for installation via iprint.

    • The printer is on a network

    • PCs are on a network

    • I import and configure the 5550DN driver into my resource manager

    • Users are then able to click on a link to install the printer to their PC. This installs the printer and driver configured with proper IP address, etc.

When I install the driver manually (as you explained) I don't get the Printing Scout stuff. But when I create the driver in my iprint resource manager, (getting the driver from the same .inf file as when installed manually) I get the Printing Scout.

    Any more suggestions?

Unfortunately the driver from the link you supplied is for an HP Color LaserJet 5550. Not the same as a Xerox Phaser 5550DN.

I'm not understanding what you mean about copying just the driver. I downloaded the driver from Xerox web site. The file I downloaded was an executable. When I run the executable, it creates a folder 5550_Driver with the following files contained in it.

    locale.gdp

    p6disp.gdp

    p6fong.gdp

    pcl5eres.dll

    pclxl.dll

    pclxl.gdp

    pjl.gdp

    STDDTYPE.GDL

    stdnames.gdp

    STDSCHEM.GDL

    STDSCHMX.GDL

    ttfsub.gdp

    unidrv.dll

    unidrv.hlp

    unidrvui.dll

    unires.dll

    x2_5550l.chm

    x25550AY.cab

    x25550x.cat

    x25550X.inf

    x2comsAY.dll

    x2coreAY.dll

    x2guiAY.dll

    x2jobtAY.exe

    x2ptpcAY.dll

    x2rpclAY.dll

    x2txt01.dll

    x2upAY.dll

    x2utilAY.dll

    x2wftuAY.dll

    x2wmrkAY.dll

    x5550xAY.cfg

    x5550xAY.gdp

    x5550xAY.ini

    x5pp.dll

    x5print.dll

    xlibeay.dll

When I install the printer locally (windows - add printer) and browse to this folder and select the x25550X.inf file, the Printing Scout is not installed.

When I try to create the driver as a resource (for i-print installation to multiple PCs) I browse to the exact same file(x25550X.inf) but the Printing Scout stuff is included.

I'm trying to import the driver for Xerox 5550DN into my resource manager so that I can configure a driver profile which can then be used to install printer driver to PCs on a network (using i-print). I do not want the Printing Scout to be installed.

I have found a way to resolve the issue. Originally when I was configuring the printer driver for network installation, I had the Bi-Directional Communication option (Configuration Tab, Bidirectional Setup, Bi-Directional Communication) set to "Manual" with the IP address of the printer filled in on the "Device Name or TCP/IP Address" field.

I change the option to "Automatic (Recommended)" with nothing in the "Device Name or TCP/IP Address" field.

Now when users install this printer to their PCs, the driver is installed with desired settings (e.g. automatically print 2-sided) and the Printing Scout is no longer launched every time the printer is used.

I have been checking with Xerox, we service the units. They nor I are aware of this issue. If you are able to disable the printing scout option and it works, thats the only option right now. There is no way to have the drivers loaded with the notification options disabled, and there is no option to install the printer driver w/o installing the printing scout.

At the very end of installing the drivers where it asks to do a test page, the newer drivers ask you if you want print scount installed.

But just to verify, the TAB key on your keyboard is disabled when the printing scout option is on, on the driver, is the tab key disabled at anytime or only when you print. This is a little unclear.

Also, you can install the PHaser 5550N driver which will then install without print scout, but you will lose the duplex option.

Thanks Adi
I hope this helps.

Yes... there is a way ... you have to install the printer manually and not run the disk ...cause on the autorun it will install the driver with all the additional software and tasks...but if you plug the printer and on the installation wizard choose not to do it automatically but install from a location ....browse and only point it to the location of the driver ...it doesn't have to be the the disk ...you can even click right on the disk to explore ( stop autorun previously ) and locate the folder where it say driver ...and locate the driver for the OS you use ...( usually in the original disc there can be more than one driver for the device ..named after the operation system ...and the CPU mode 32 or 64 on newer ones) .....and copy the driver folder or instaler in a different location ...that browse and point the wizard to use it from there ...
anyway ...if you explore and locate only the driver ...on the disk and install it manually ..than remove the disk and after that restart and plug the printer ...only the driver will be installed and the communication established ...with the computer ...
if you can not isolate the driver only ...let me know the type of op. system and I will look for it myself ..

just copy ( clone ) the driver into a location ...but the driver alone ..not all the stuf ...separate from the disc the driver ..and make a folder somewhere to make sure that when you install automatically it gets the driver alone ....after that make a image or something similar ...with Nero ... like a burning to disk only burn to an image on the hdd ...and after that direct that link to that point
it will be the driver alone ...or upload it somewhere like media fire ...the download link make it available for all ... ...
    anyway

the problem is that you have in that location the whole content of the original disk ...and this cause the others to install automatically the whole package ..in short in that link location ..to be exact al the end of that link ...it has to be the driver and the driver alone ...
I guess the problem is that blocking the function of the tab key ..is important for work in office ....and other programs that you might use there on the dily bases...try this isolate the driver alone ...or the folder that contain it ...and place it instead of the actual location from where the others install the printer ..

I located and uploaded the driver in this location ..I have reasons to believe that its the driver alone ...try to use this one ..but it will work only for xp and 2003 server ...not with vista ..

after you create the resurse ...try to browse the foldr ..and locate a file named XCPSPZ.EXE ...this I understood is the ****** execution that make this ...but I have a hounch that this is the result of using the printer in this way ...
I am not sure how you manege to do this ,,,and how many are ya whom use this printer ..cause if there are not that many pc-s ..just install them manually for the same printer and I do not see why not to work ..or better ...send a collective email with the driver and instructions to install in each machine ...

I told you that this is something that is related with the online installing .... I only regret that I should approach the problem from the other end ...and thought about what makes the tab change function ...instead of eliminate the scout.... anyway ...Im glad you managed to sole the problem ...

I found if you remove or rename this file (C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64\3\x2jobtAO.exe) then it will disable the printing scout from coming up.

How do I stop the test page from ALWAYS printing from my WorkCentre 7120 printer?

If I am not wrong you are asking about Banner Sheet? I guess. close all your open applications and go to Device and printers, then right click on the 7120 printer and select printing preferences, then go to advanced Tab. select + next to Paper / output. you will see (print ID on Banner Sheet) select it and go for the option Disable job ID. make your changes save by pressing ok.

Difficulty printing to DNS 323 attached printer

Try going into Kaspersky, settings, firewall, and then select the network tab. Under the local network tab you may find the security is set too high, and this is what is blocking the print run. Settings from high to low are Public > Local > Trusted. Change the security setting down for your LAN the printer is on to Local, or trusted if you know what you are doing. Worked for me. I had similar problem - printing worked, then installed Kaspersky on all machines and printing became erratic on wife's laptop.I had different settings on the wife's network settings for her wireless and wired LAN, and I think the erratic behaviour came from fact that one of them was public, and one local. Changed down and all was fixed.

Tab printing on Xerox 7345

There is no tabs option on the 7345. I am glad you asked that.
I was recently at school on that product, there was no mention of tab printing, I went to the Xerox.com site to inquire and tab printing is not supported.
You can call 1-800-821-2797 and inquire there. They may have an undocumented solution for tabs.
Let me know if they do please.
You will need your machine serial number when you call.

You did not list the model number, but usually you go to Start>Settings>Printers and Faxes and right click on the Xerox Printer and choose properties. Go to the ADVANCED tab and choose Printing Defaults. Now look at the Advanced tab in this window and select Paper/Output. Look for Banner sheet and choose disable. Apply and save and exit.

Printing recto verso

On your computer, click mouse on windows icon in lower left corner of screen. When the menu appears, left click on 'printers'. Go to the icon representing the Xerox, and right click mouse. from the drop-down list, chose 'properties' at the bottom. The 'properties' window should appear. Under the ''general' tab, it should show 'yes' for double sided prints. Go to the 'accessories' tab and left click mouse. A list of installed accessories should appear. See if there is a 'duplexer' accessory available. If it is, left click on the duplexer display and add it to the Xerox. Left click mouse on "apply" tab, then left click on the "OK' tab. Exit out of 'printers' and test.
