Question about Laser XEROX Phaser Series 5550/N Workgroup Up to 50 ppm Monochrome Printer
Xerox 5550DN The Printing Scout often causes the Tab key to temporarily quit working. Is there a way to Disable the printing scout in the driver configuration. I know that I can uncheck the notify options on each computer after the driver has been installed. But, what I'm trying to find is where/how to disable these options in the configuration so that the notificcation options are already unchecked whenever the driver is installed.
Or is there a way to install the printer driver w/o installing printing scout?
I have been checking with Xerox, we service the units. They nor I are aware of this issue. If you are able to disable the printing scout option and it works, thats the only option right now. There is no way to have the drivers loaded with the notification options disabled, and there is no option to install the printer driver w/o installing the printing scout.
At the very end of installing the drivers where it asks to do a test page, the newer drivers ask you if you want print scount installed.
But just to verify, the TAB key on your keyboard is disabled when the printing scout option is on, on the driver, is the tab key disabled at anytime or only when you print. This is a little unclear.
Also, you can install the PHaser 5550N driver which will then install without print scout, but you will lose the duplex option.
I hope this helps.

Yes... there is a way ... you have to install the printer manually and not run the disk ...cause on the autorun it will install the driver with all the additional software and tasks...but if you plug the printer and on the installation wizard choose not to do it automatically but install from a location ....browse and only point it to the location of the driver ...it doesn't have to be the the disk ...you can even click right on the disk to explore ( stop autorun previously ) and locate the folder where it say driver ...and locate the driver for the OS you use ...( usually in the original disc there can be more than one driver for the device ..named after the operation system ...and the CPU mode 32 or 64 on newer ones) .....and copy the driver folder or instaler in a different location ...that browse and point the wizard to use it from there ...
anyway ...if you explore and locate only the driver ...on the disk and install it manually ..than remove the disk and after that restart and plug the printer ...only the driver will be installed and the communication established ...with the computer ...
if you can not isolate the driver only ...let me know the type of op. system and I will look for it myself ..
