Printer makes copies perfectly when using "copy" button. However, when trying to scan a document with Canon Software and save it to the computer, an error message appears:
"Printer is in use or an error has occurred. Check the status. Scanner controller will be closed. Code: 2,140,2"
What could it be?

If you get a warning regarding Ink is Empty and even you cannot Scan your documents then you might require a small R&D, Just hold Stop/Reset button for about 5 seconds, then open cartridge access door, Remove both the Cartridge's and wipe it with the wet tissue or cloth... spray water or deodorant on the exposed golden surface of the cartridge and do not let it dry, install as soon as possible... Then close the cartridge access door and switch off your printer, then Re-start it and connect to your computer, Hold Stop/Reset button for 5 seconds and then enjoy scanning...

I had exactly the same problem (error Code:2,140,2) in Canon PIXMA MP250, and it was solved when I replaced both ink cartridges which were almost empty (almost without ink). I know an scanner problem is not supposed to be in relation with ink or printer problems, but that's the way I've fixed it. Good luck!
I had the same error in my Canon PIXMA MP270, I fixed mine without inserting the ink cartridges (I only scanned the some documents).. You can try reinstalling the software using the cd that comes with it (first uninstall the canon drivers the plug the canon pixma usb ONLY WHEN THE PRINTER ASKS FOR IT.. If that doesn't work.. Try reinstalling it again..) , or try installing Driver Whiz then scan for updates. You will know if its working if the printer's warning sign stops blinking.. Now click the scan button on the printer or click the CANON MP NAVIGATOR on your desktop and click the START SCAN button..
But actually i tried doing the same thing , uninstalling and reinstall but it doesn't still work..
same problem is solved by the refilling of ink cartridge .
even in my printer it showing same error ....i think so i should replace my cartridge ..lets hope the problem get clear .. anyways thanks u guys..

I change a new cartridge and re install the software. But Still i am facing the same problem and i got three flashing amber lights on the lcd pannel.
