Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

6 Answers

XBOX 360 won't work.

When I turn my console on my console power button blinks(just bottom two and top left blink) and just won't start. I have moved my console from my TV hook up in my room to my TV downstairs and had no problem, but when I move it back to my room and hook it up it blinks and nothing happens.
The unit is about 1 1/2 years old. I have never really had this problem before.
Any help would be appreciated.

This is for EVERYONE.

You've had a hardware failure. There are 3 major causes for failure on these units:

1) Cold Solder joints - this means that the soldering done on the main PC board, was done incorrectly and as such the solder is not adhering to their contacts properly. They are prone to cracking, and other inconsistencies which will cause improper function

2) Lead Free Solder used - Lead Free solder is good, but the quality used by Microsoft is horrible. They used the cheapest and crappiest lead free solder they could find. Read #3 for the reason why this is bad...

3) Inadequate Ventilation - The XBOX 360 get's extremely hot, and when this happens, the lead free solder used on the pc boards will start to become weak and crack - in addition to reason #1

Because MS rushed to production, and did not properly test and assembly these units, hardware failure is imminent.

You will need to take to a qualified service center for repair. MS offers a 3 year warranty on the infamous "3 Rings Of Death" issue, if it is something else, then there is only a 1 year warranty.

MS does offer Free shipping, and includes a 1 year warranty after the repair. However, we've heard stories of the MS NOT fixing the problem, and sending back units with the same issues, or worst. Also, expect to be without your Xbox for at least 6-8 weeks. If you do not have a warranty, the cost is $99 for the repair from MS.

Good Luck everyone!

What color are the blinking lights?

You see three lights on the Ring of Light (RoL) flash red on the front of your Xbox 360 console.
The upper-right quadrant light is the only light that does not flash red.

The three flashing red lights may indicate that your Xbox 360 console has experienced a hardware failure.

If you suspect that you are experiencing this issue, you can submit a
console-repair request online. However, before you submit your request,
we ask that you first try the following two steps to verify that you
    are indeed experiencing this issue:

you turn on the console, examine the light on the power supply. The
power supply light should illuminate green even if the three lights on
the Ring of Light flash red. If the power supply light is not green,
please follow the steps that are listed in the following Microsoft
    Knowledge Base articles:
906101 Xbox 360: The power supply light is red

906102 Xbox 360: The power supply light is orange

906103 Xbox 360: The power supply light is not illuminated

Turn off the console. Wait 10 seconds, and then turn on the console again to see whether the symptom occurs again. If
your console continues to display the three flashing red lights, your
console may have to be repaired. For information about how to start the
repair process online, please visit, and then click Console Repair? in the upper-right section of the Web page.

I have a red light on my xbox and it told me to look for consumer support. what do i do

How many lights are blinking??

Two blinking red light's on the power button means that your console has insufficient ventilation. The red light will continue flashing until the console cools down.

Let your console cool
  1. Turn off your console.
  2. Let your console cool for one hour.
  3. Turn your console back on.
If the solution worked, your power button should be green.

If your power supply cords are not plugged in securely, you may see one flashing red light when you turn on your Xbox 360 console.

Check out this site and follow along according to the symptoms face by the xbox360.

Trying to turn xbox on and getting blinking red ring around power button

If you are having three red lights flashing around the power button with upper right corner not flashing, it means that your Xbox 360 is having a general hardware failure. This is caused by the internal components of the console experiencing a malfunction. You can contact Microsoft Xbox Support for it to be repaired.

My contorller truns on but keeps on blinking but does not work when i try press any buttons

If your using it on a 360 then try syncing your pad with the console, theres a small white button just down and left from the power button, down adn right slightly from the second memory port, while holding this button down press the small white button that is on top of your 360 controller and hold them both together at the same time till they start blinking simultaneously... Then voila...Happy gaming

Wont load, blinking red light on the power button

if it is the top left, bottom left and bottom right lights blinking red, this means that there is a hardware failure in your xbox 360 and there is no current way to fix this. i recommend that you send it in to xbox to see if they can do anything, and if not, they will possibly send you a new xbox 360.

My controller and xbox wont connect

To connect the controller to your Xbox 360 console, follow these steps:
  1. Press and hold the Xbox Guide button until the controller turns on. The Xbox Guide button is the round button with the green "X" near the center of the controller.
  2. Make sure that your Xbox 360 console is turned on. If your Xbox 360 console is not turned on, press the power button. The power button is the large round button on your Xbox 360 console.
  3. On the Xbox 360 console, press and release the Connect button. The Connect button is the small round button on the Xbox 360 console.
  4. On the controller, press and release the Connect button. The Connect button is the small button on the front edge of the controller, between the left bumper button and the charging port.
  5. After the Ring of Light spins and flashes one time on the controller and on the console, the controller is connected. The quadrant on the Ring of Light that remains lit indicates the position in which the controller is connected.

My wireless xbox controller keeps blinking green but won't connect

Have you tried leaving your console OFF first, and then Holding down the CENTER [X} button to turn your console on?

Usually that always works, I usually disconnect the battery clip and reconnect it (to turn it off) when it keeps blinking and does not connect.

Then I hold down the center button on the controller and move the left analog stick around in circles while it's blinking, and it usually recognizes it a lot faster when I do this.

-If the above does not work, disconnect the battery clip on the controller again and put it back in,

-But first (before powering on the controller) press and hold the tiny -sync- button on your xbox (while it's on),
-and then turn on your controller, and hold down the sync button on your controller, and move the anolog stick around while it does this also.

If the above does not solve your problem, I'm sorry, but I tried.
