Exchanged AmEx Rewards points for 3 Toshiba Model DS-4000KU DVD players in 2007. All stopped working. Two a year ago, one this week. Errors - can't read disc, bad disc, etc.

Warranty period is up. So I decided to open one up tonight since they were going in the garbage anyway.

Put on rubber gloves and took off the case. Unscrewed the player unit, lifted it carefully, and untaped lines from the botton of the unit.

Plugged the unit in and powered it on. Did not blow up! :>)

Jiggled some of the lines and connections. Put a disc in and it read it!

Attached it to the tv without putting the case back on. Received video. Yay! But no sound. Boo!

Jiggled the lines some more and tried it again. Working fine now.

Will put the case back on later and see if it still works.

Good luck!

Only sound and No picture in Toshiba DVD/VCR combo

Hello,

maybe your connections are wrong.

The yellow pin is for video, while the white and red pin are for audio left and right.

So, your wires will be connected to video and audio "OUT" from your player and connected to "IN" respectively on your TV.

That's how it gos. Its a input and output law. The Player will be sending out the pictures and sounds (OUT) and the TV will be receiving from the other end (IN).

Its as simple is that. But if there is still no picture, then cross check your video wire (yellow), maybe its bad.

Good luck.

Toshiba sd-k970 dvd player sound but no video.

I presume that you've selected the correct inputs on the TV? Go for HDMI if you have it on your TV. If not use the yellow (composite) and ensure you have nothing in the S-Video (Toshs don't like using composite and S-video at the same time).

Only getting sound but no picture!

Well, i had a look at the back of that Toshiba TV - make sure that the red, white, and yellow cables are hooked into the Video-1 slot of the Toshiba and that the Toshiba channel is changed to Video 1.
Then check your nameless DVD player and make sure the red, white, and yello cables are all hooked to OUTPUT slots that are in the same column or row - if I had you DVD manufacturer and model #, I could suggest some additional steps to check. Also, make sure your dvd player is in dvd playback mode.

We hooked out Toshiba SD-V291 up to our Sony TV through a Direct TV Cable box. We get the sound when we play a DVD but no Video. We hooked it up with an SVideo cable and input/output cables. What are we...

I just had the same problem, and I am using rca blue, red and green cables for video. I unplugged them and plugged them back in again a couple times and it finally worked. I have had this problem before with another dvd player, don't know why. Hope this helps.

Hooking up my dvd player

Try an "RF Modulator". It can take in multiple type signals like your cable and dvd and send it to the TV via the coax. The one I have will take in Coax (cable), RCA (left, right & Video) and S-video.

I have sound but no picture

The TV could be on the wrong channel.
Make sure the video cable is going from the OUT of the DVD player to the IN of the TV.
Try multiple discs to see if same result.

No picture, but sound

I had the same problem and I managed to solve it. It was because the HDMI was set to 1080i and my TV isn't HD. Default HDMI is 480p. You can check your current HDMI setting on the front panel of your DVD. There should be a button with the words "HDMI select". Next to it there should be 3 values. If the current one (a green light shows which one is selected) is not 480p, change it. To change it, make sure your sd-5000 is on, but not reading a DVD. The press the "HDMI select" button on the front panel until the selected one is 480p. This worked for me.

(I had the same same problem without the reading slowly part. On one TV, the sound and video weren't working, and only the video wasn't working on another TV)

Hope it helps.
