Question about Sony RDR-HX725 DVD Recorder/HDD Recorder

Sony RDR -HX725 dvd recorder

I have a Sony rdr -hx 725. It was repaired due to a fault that caused it to cycle through the on to off procedure continually unti it was unplugged. The switches on the machine and the remote would not operate while it was doing this. That was 6 months ago it is now out off warranty and it has started again. If i unplug it for ashort time say 30 mins it does not fix it, but leave it overnight then it works fine.It is really annoying when if i want to record something and it has a mind of its own i cannot use it. I still have to consult with the sony shop to see what they say abou it but i was curiuos to see if anyone at FixYa recognized the problem. Thanks

Yeah - I have the same problem.

Its only just started and its very annoying.

Only 20 months old and not a cheap player so I am very dissapointed in Sony.....

Yup, 2 years old and mine is cycling through WELCOME, LOAD, POWER OFF. I've unplugged it for a few minutes with no effect, now I'm going to try 24 hours... thanks. Will let you know...

I had the same problem, which, curiously, is slightly described in the instructions manual (towards the end) as an electrostatic problem. They tell you to unplug the DVD for 24 hours : it works but does not prevent it for doing the same thing later and, in my experience, in shorter and shorter times.

I decided recently to mount a ground with an electric thread from one screw behind the DVD to the corresponding plug : to day, I still hadn't any problem for seven weeks (compared with one month regularly and eleven days the last time.

Aha ! excuse me, I'm french and perhaps not perfectly bilingual...

According to the operation manual, C 13 error indicates a problem with the HDD or the inserted DVD is dirty and/or defective. If cleaning/using a different disc does not solve the issue, then the unit will need to be submitted to an authorised SONY service centre for repair.

This could be expensive if the recorder is no longer under any warranty, and, if a built in hard drive is involved, replacement and reconfiguration may be necessary for this model. Get a quote, so that you will have an idea of the likely cost(s).

This service/error 'code' is part of the unit's self diagnosis function.

C13:00 error code on rdr HX-725 when i put in a cd. DVD's are playing ok, so is the HDD.

Try to turn off the machine (deplug it) for at least some minutes - and turn it on again. That worked for me! ;-)

When I switch on my RDR-HX725 IT COMES UP WITH hdd error. What can I do to clear this concern ? I have a lot of stored data that I would prefer not to loose.

Sounds like you are going have to reset your device. When you do some you will loose all the data on your HD. You could always pay to have it taken off before you do this but the cost would be high. For info on these companies or people that perform this service just send me a comment and I can give you a few links to them.

Sony dvd recorder as hdd error

try replacing the red sata cable which runs from the HDD under the DVD drive to the main board on the right-hand side. these are a common problem on these models, there cheap and unreliable. you can purchase a better quality cable from a computer store for little money. HDD ERROR is'nt necessery an HDD fault as i found out with my rdr-hx525. if however the HDD is faulty and you buy a replacement, once installed you will need to pair the new HDD with the unit by entering the service mode by unplugging the AC then while holding down open/close and play together then re-insert the AC lead while still holding open/close and play and wait until you see an "S" in the display then let go and the service mode will appear on the tv screen. go to no.9 HDD mode, press enter then go to no.3 Write ID then it will say "execute write ID?" yes and press enter and then it will say "writing HDD serial ID.... OK" once this is done, exit the service mode by keeping your finger on the power button for approx 10secs. your DVD recorder should now recognise the new HDD. if you don't follow this process, you will still have an HDD error message as your DVD recorder will have your old HDD installed and won't recognise your new one. given the amount of time since you posted this fault, you may still have the unit in question in which case i hope this solution is helpful, or for anyone else with the same problem.
