I have the same problem. is it not possible for us to use the HP Scanjet 2200C flatbed scanner on Vista?

You can try the method described in:

For many people this solved the problem.
In my case it worked ok for a couple of weeks.
Later on I got problems again.

No problem to try.

This is the information available at HP site regarding using your Scanjet 2200C with Windows Vista:
"We are sorry to inform you that there will be no Windows Vista support available for your HP product. Therefore your product will not work with Windows Vista."
It is not possible to run that scanner on Vista, as well as many other HP scanner models (I have a 5370C that also is not supported). In my case, I have two partitions on my computer, one with XP (where I have the scanner installed and working) and other with Vista for my regular work.
