ASUS DRW-2014l1t DVD burning problems.

I recently bought a new desktop PC with the ASUS DRW-2014l1t drive. I can write/read CD's perfectly and also read most DVD's.

However, when I tried writing DVD-R's, the burning process took either 5-6 minutes without finalizing the disc resulting in the disc being read as 'blank' or up to half an hour with finalizing the disc. In this case the disc could be read on both my new desktop and laptop.

A friend and myself tested my drive on his PC succesfully with both DVD-R's and DVD+R's. But upon returning home, I was unable to read the DVD+R which was written during the test.

I've tried to write a DVD+R again while finalizing it. It took again up to 5-6 minutes but it is registered as 'blank'.

Good to know is that my OS is Windows XP Professional SP2, just like my laptop. The drivers for Asus are from Microsoft version 5.1.2535.0 and date back from 1/07/2001.
My friend's desktop has Windows Vista Premium as OS and his driver version - also from Microsoft - dates from 2007.

Could the olders drivers (2001) be related to my problems? I have already tried to search for drivers, but without luck.

But the DVD's I burn with my Asus DRW-2014L1T on my desktop also can't be read on my laptop.

I have no problems with reading DVD's on my desktop that have been burned on other PC's.

Let me know if any fixes were found to this problem. I ahve the same problem. It is not the disk and I doubt it is the drive. My guess is that is pertains to the way bios is set up, or the configuration of the drive, but I tried every different setting I could find and nothing.

Same as here... Used Nero 7 Ultra Edition and the same problem is going on here. I'm trying Nero 8 here to see what happens. I'll come back with results.

yes i do have the same problem as you do but even worse, I cannot even read the DVD's that I have recorded plus my ASUS DRW cannot find it in the desktop; but CD's are recongised by mine. should I update or throw the DVD player and buy a better marked player?

By the way, I'm using ASUS DRW-2014L1T firmware version 1.02.

Cleaned it with a "Lens Cleaner" CD. Looks like, after the first test, it burned the CD without any problem, but the data verification found some problems. Still with Nero 7 Ultra Edition. I'll try with Nero 8 tonight and post the results here. Nero 7 is not accepting being removed, some problem is resulting in an error on removing it.

It's the disk not the drive.

I have the same drive. Initially I was having trouble using CloneDVD, and it wouldn't recognize dual layered verbatim DVD's. I fixed the problem by switching over to my Nero 8 Suite Recode software. Then it worked perfectly every time. A basic Nero 7 disc writing software was included with the drive in the retail version I bought. Although this drive will write at speeds up to 20X I prefer not to go over 12-16X on single layered discs. Even with a fast system, you get the best video quality by burning at slightly slower speeds.

The DRW-2014L1T is a DVD-RW and the drivers are incorporated with windows drivers. Are you looking for the burning software, like Nero or Roxio? Or is the unit not working at all?

Does not read dvd

According to Asus there are many burned dvd formats that are not supported or simply do not work in this drive. Asus stated that most dvd-r should work but not all, and that is the only burned dvd media that works. You may want to look into buying a different drive.
