My extender all of a sudden will not pick up a signal from the main wireless router.

You have to setup a password on your wireless network. This way you will only be logged on to your owns. No one else will be able to enter you network.
Thanks

Have you tried restarting and resetting the router as well ?

The Trendnet router did not get very many if any good reviews. I would say any router is better than what you have. Belkin is ok but on the low end of OK.
Spend some time on CNet, PCMagazine, Anandtech, Tom's Hardware and look at some of the reviews they have done.
Good luck

Just sharing this;
Hook the internet connection again on the computer directly to its LAN port like the way it is first connected. Then activated the net connection, double the double monitor icon on the right side, bottom side of your monitor. Then click status, support, details you will see the net details of your net.
Then reconnect the system back where the router is connected on the system, then use your the DNS settings manually on the router. By getting to web page utility setup of the router.
Hope this helps.

I'm afraid you can't boost the sgnal from the router without buying a repeater/booster box.
You will get the best wireless performance from your router if it is in the highest position possible in the house - of course it may be impractical to move it but, if you can, then do so.
The only other option is to purchase a booster. I don't know what country you are living in, so I can't give definitive advice. You should try a search on google or ebay for "wireless router booster"
Everything is possible!
