try changing picture size

Do not align the guns! they are located facing up toward the mirror; they are picture tubes! covered with big glass lenses! heavy!
instead look for a red/green/blue adjustment knob on the set's front; the buttons should say: convergence or, crosshatch push the crosshatch button: once you have three vertical lines crossing three horizontal lines; just merge them using the other R/G/B knobs untill you have one white vertical line and, one horizontal line crossing in the center of the screen.
(you may have to find the controls on the remote using "setup")

Horizontal centering is performed in the service menu. Beware! You can mess up a lot of stuff in this menu.

REPLACE VERICAL OUTPUT IC ' LA7838

To me, sounds like a picture tube issue. horizontal / vertical controls don't fix it. then its dead.

Failure in the vertical deflection amplifier section. This is usualy from failed components, and sometimes cold solder connections. Most of the time, I found bad capacitors, and sometimes the output IC or transistors (depending on the model type) that have failed.

Take the set to a service center for an estimate. You may find it more feasible to buy a new set depending on the parts that failed and the time involved to do the work.

Have you measured the b+ yet? I would like to see the schematic. It could be the b+ section or the horizontal drive circuit.

Your whole problem my freind is dryed up capacitors. You should go, if you have the technical ability to replace these capacitors, to http://servicemanuals.net, download the schematic diagram, and start replacing the waveshaper capacitors in the vertical drive circuit.

Hey Rolly no problem man as if we can help ya your not taking up our time as we answer when we can. Ok theres is still a small cap somewhere by the drive ic or they call it the jungle ic. If you have a schematic scan the vert part and I will assist you the best i know how.
