Will not zoom past 1.5

I don't have the manual of this camera, but others like this. With Sony DSC camera's zoom can be limited when you are shooting in highest resolution, or some aspect ratios. I strongly advice to read the part about zoom in your manual.

i think the firmware is corrupted ..... you must install new firmware ....
just visit the nearby showroom or technician he will install the new firmware ..........
for installing firmware it may costs some 300 to 400 bugs ....
how ever there may be other problems too may be the battery is dead just change battery and check....
check whether it is detecting in pc or not..........

My Sony Cybershot DSC-S45

the button is offset inside the camera, there is a little piece of plastic that seems to loose its elasticity and will not depress the actual on/off switch inside.

S45 not powering up

Ditto for me as well. Did anybody have an adapter that lets you power the camera directly? I'm thinking about opening it, but who knows? 5 year obsolescence time-out?

Flash

Did you try to reinitialize? Setup menu go down to the third Setup#1 menu and make sure you click OK to reinitialize. That's what the manual said.

S45 sliding cover fault

When you start to close the lens cover, a pin pushes against a spring to trigger the lens retraction sequence. You can easily take off the front cover to investigate this, and possibly adjust the angle of the spring to make it less sensitive. Just be careful not to yank out the ribbon that connects it all together.
