Sounds simple to say belt is broken. My panasonic beater bar wont turn but belt is intact. The lever arm to hold the belt in drive slips off and allows the belt to run on the neutral bush. The lever arm needs to be reshaped to hold in position

That means that the belt is broken, stretched or worn. You need to change the belt. You can get replacements here:

SOURCE: Our dyson beater bar won't spin.

DC14s actually have two belts, but one of them is difficult to get at or even see without some dismantling.

Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com which has some very useful info on dismantling and repairing Dysons.

Although this site doesnt actually cover the DC14 yet, the DC14 is very similar to the DC07 so as regards dissassembling the machine, my experience is that the DC07 info will enable you to do the job.

SOURCE: beater bar does not spin...

  • If the brush bar is not spinning on your vacuum there are a couple possibilities here.

  1. The first thing to check the the belt than connects between the brush bar and the brush bar motor. If it has broke or is very loos then there will be no rotation in from the brush bar. If you hear the motor whirring but no brush bar then the belt has moved to the top of the list.

  • Of course you want to make sure that the brush bar spins freely. Make sure the vacuum is unplugged and give it a few manual turns to make sure there are no hangups. Keep the brush bar of hair and things that get caught in the brush.

  • Another issue is the motor could be burned up or otherwise not spinning. If the motor is not running there is nothing to spin the brush bar. I will upload all 3 exploded diagrams of your vacuum so you can get a good view of your vacuums workings in my next post to you that I will send directly. Mean while here is my solution to your problem.

  • If you have any comments please feel free to leave them right here and I will respond to you.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Vax Air Reach bar won't spin

If the beater bar on your Vax Air Reach vacuum cleaner won't spin, despite the fact that the green light is on, there may be a few possible causes:
  1. Belt is worn or broken: If the beater bar belt is worn or broken, it will not spin. Check the belt to see if it is intact and not stretched or frayed. If it is, you may need to replace the belt.
  2. Beater bar is clogged: If the beater bar is clogged with hair, debris, or other objects, it may not be able to spin. Remove the beater bar and clean it thoroughly, removing any blockages or tangles.
  3. Motor is faulty: If the motor that powers the beater bar is faulty, it may not be able to turn the bar. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, the motor may need to be repaired or replaced.
Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Turn off the vacuum and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Remove the beater bar by releasing the clips or screws that hold it in place.
  3. Check the beater bar for blockages, and clean it thoroughly.
  4. Check the beater bar belt for wear or damage, and replace it if necessary.
  5. Reinstall the beater bar and secure it in place.
  6. Plug in the vacuum and turn it on to see if the beater bar is now spinning.
If the above steps do not work, it may be necessary to contact Vax customer support or a professional repair technician for further assistance.

My V20 stick vacuums beater bar runs for a little while then quits, I've cleaned the bar by removing the bar to clean the dirt, strings and ect and also took the end of the bar off and cleaned it also

It's good that you have cleaned the beater bar and the end of it, as this is often the cause of the problem when the beater bar stops spinning.
If cleaning the beater bar and end of it did not resolve the issue, there are a few other things you can try:
  1. Check the belt: The belt connects the motor to the beater bar and if it is damaged or stretched, it can cause the beater bar to stop spinning. To check the belt, turn the vacuum over and locate the belt. If it is damaged or stretched, you will need to replace it.
  2. Check for debris in the brush roll housing: Debris can sometimes get stuck in the brush roll housing and cause the beater bar to stop spinning. To check for debris, remove the brush roll and look for any foreign objects that may be stuck in there.
  3. Check for a clog in the hose or the suction path: A clog in the hose or suction path can also cause the beater bar to stop spinning. To check for a clog, remove the hose and use a flashlight to look for any blockages. If you find a clog, use a broom handle or similar object to carefully remove it.
If these troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, it is possible that there is a problem with the motor or another internal component of the vacuum. In this case, it may be necessary to have a professional repair it.

Beater bar only spins when vacuum is locked & upright.

Your belt is probably stretched and can't turn the brush when it's on the floor. Replace the belt at least twice per year.

Vacuum doesnt pick up very well any more

Larry Kessler:

Unplug the vacuum and lay it down on the floor upside down on some newspaper. Remove the vacuum head foot plate with a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the beater bar and belt by pulling straight up on the beater bar. Pull the end caps and bearings from the ends of the beater bar... it may take a two-grunt pull to remove them, or CAREFULLY use a screwdriver to pry them off. Remove the hair, carpet fibers and other gunk from the ends of the beater bar, bearings and end caps. Pour (or spray) alcohol on the bearings and spin them until they spin freely. Dry the bearings so there is no alcohol in them.
Put a few drops of light machine oil in the bearings, (3 in 1 oil will do), and spin the bearings to distribute the oil and ensure the bearings spin freely. Now would be a good time to check the vacuum head opening and the hose for clogs. Reassemble the end caps and bearings to the ends of the beater bar and reinstall the beater bar assembly (with a new belt) in the vacuum head. Reinstall the foot plate, and your machine should pick up fuzz balls the size of Michigan!

Roller will not turn

Conmaur102:

I don't know what type of vacuum you have, but you should check the drive belt to see if it is damaged. Remove the sole plate (at the bottom of the head) and remove the belt and roller (called the beater bar). check the bearings at each end of the beater bar (they must roll easily and smoothly). If they are bound up, pull them off of the ends of the beater bar and remove the hair, strings, and fibers wound around the end of the beater bar. Lubricate the bearings with light machine oil, and spin them by hand until they spin freely. Reinstall the belt and beater bar, and reinstall the sole plate. While you are at it... check the hose and head to make sure they are not clogged.

The brush on my Electrolux Versatility will not spin. You can spin it by hand, but the motor will not spin it.

Hello, W/D here.
Since the brush will not spin, but the motor works, either the belt has come off of the motor shaft, the belt is worn past it's useful life, or the beater bar has seized.
1. Turn off the power (unplug).
2. Remove the bottom plate. With the plate off, use your finger to test the tension of the belt. It should be tight, and roll when you roll the beater bar by hand.
3. Remove the beater bar and belt. Inspect the beater bar, particularly by the bearings. Remove any twine, hair, etc.
4. Inspect the belt for abnormal wear. If there is any significant wear in the belt, replace it.
5. Reassembly is in the reverse order. Place the belt on the beater bar. While holding the beater bar close to it's position, place the belt on the motor shaft. Rotate the beater bar bearings to their proper position and install the beater bar. Replace the cover plate.

Best regards, --W/D--

The motor is spinning and spinning the beater motor but the beater bar wont spin

Check to see if the drive belt to the beater is broken. Also, remove the beater brush and clean as best you can. Add some WD40 at both ends of the brush where the hard rubber/plastic pieces are that hold it in the unit. Spin the beater by hand to make sure it moves freely.
