It usually finds and updates whatever map(s) you currently have on your GPS device. However, if you have a few maps, it may offer you options to buy more (maps) ... as one or more updates ... for one or more additional charge.
Well, usually a rebate like that one will take anywhere from 6-8 weeks and in some cases even longer than that. If you do not receive it 12 weeks after you register go back to the site and request customer support in this matter.
Fix it yourself, you need either a new battery and or motherboard. Relativly easy to do! 10 small torx screws for motherboard and 2 ribbons, then a few more screws and loosen the harddrive and screen for battery

Hi, Sorry to tell you that but you are dreaming if you think you can get free maps!!!!!.....i did too!, unless you get a boot image (or backup image) of another device...updated of course and load it on your device. TomTom is one of the rare site where you don`t have to fight or struggle to get map updates (unlike MIO which barely provide support) but you have to spend $ , i did buy a one year update service at about 50$, it is fast easy and....stress free especially if you need your device for your work.
Sorry for such a late reply but have been away. The original problem with my TomTom Go 700 Satnav hasn't been solved. It's just that I was advised by the company (They took it away for checking before returning it untreated) that it would be cheaper to buy a replacement! So that it what I will do!
