My Canon EOS 400D won't switch on. It was during a shoot. When I went back to it agin to finish the shoot, it would switch on. I have tried everything I can think of. Remove battery/remove clock battery/wait, then put back in and try again. Nothing. Not a flicker. At time of problem, I had a Sigma macro lens connected and camera sitting on a tripod. The 400D is 3 years old and there's never been a problem - up to now. I'm told it will probably cost a minimum of £160 to fix, but nobody will tell me what the likely problem is. Plenty of people seem to have the same problem, but so far no suggestions as to the probable cause (and solution).
Hi, I have the exact same problem. I was taking pictures today when suddenly a shoot took long to complete (the mirror didn't go back to position). I thought it was very weird, but I just turn off and back on the power. Since then the camera won't turn on. Since I'm not the only one with this issue I start to think that this is a design/manufacturing issue. My camera is about 3 years and 2 months old and I took a total of about 15000 shots. SN is 0330127292. Anybody knows a solution or has some infos about repair cost or anything helpful?
Thanks a lot

Have you tried cleaning the battery contacts in the camera with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol? Are the batteries also 3 years old?

We sent our Canon 400D to a specialist Canon approved repairer in London and got it back today. They say they had to replace the 'P' fuse on the motherboard. Total cost £100 for parts+labour plus £10 postage. Camera working perfectly again.
