Deleting or formatting won't make the data in memory card erased permanently.

Those deleted data is still stored on the memory card, it's just invisible or inaccessible. Only the FAT or NFTS table is erased (the information about where those data were saved), but the real data are still intact there in sectors of the hard drive.

So as long as those data are not overwritten by new data, it's highly possible to recover them. And the MOST Effective way is to rely on some format recovery programs.

Try this data recovery program called asoftech data recovery, which can recover data after deeply scanning your memory card to look for lost data you accidentally deleted or formatted.
http://www.asoftech.com/adr/

Note: before the data is recovered, never attempt to put more files to the USB drive. As saving more files may cause original data overwritten. Once overwritten, it's impossible to recover the lost items.

Good luck and best regards!

The answer is Positive, you have chance to recover the lost memory card files(pictures, videos or music) with so-called photo recovery software but it's not 100% sure. Well, since you failed to mention the OS you are running, I'll recommend you have a try of Wondershare Photo Recovery, a program equipped with both Windows and Mac versions. For Windows OS, download here. If you are running Mac OS X, get the program from this link.

Step-to-Step Instruction:

1. Download and install the trial version on your computer, then connect your camera memory card to the computer (I assume you are using Windows). Start Wondershare Photo Recovery and select the drive letter that assigned to camera memory card.
2. Then choose the file type (all, photo, video, music) click "Star Scan".
3. Now the scanning process will start automatically to look for the deleted items. You will then get a list of all recoverable ones.
4. Preview the photos. If your deleted ones are found, then you need pay to get the activation code. And click "Recover".

Tips:
1. Take the free trial version before you buy.
2. Before your deleted items are recovered, do not take more photos or videos.

I hope you good luck. Greetings

You pressed "format" on your camera. That meant that you formatted the memory card of your camera. All your pictures are saved on the memory card of your Canon digital camera automatically. You can recover them with photo recovery software. But once the pictures were overwritten by new data, they are gone for good.

I had recovered photos and videos from formatted SD card on my camera with a program called Tenorshare Photo Recovery for Mac and it worked.Anyway, you can download it (Photo Recovery for Windows version is available, too, as I remember) and scan your memory card for free to preview whether your files can be recovered.By the way,it will show you the file name, type, date and size of your files and thumbnails for your pictures that it found on your card.Give it a shot!

Here is a step by step tutorial to guide you recover photos from camera.

That's why one is always asked to back up everything important at least on two hard drives. In your case, as long as you have a data backup at least, you can directly save your wanted data back easily.
But, if you do not have one, you do need to try a formatted memory card data recovery freeware:
http://www.freeware-fix.blogspot.com/2013/03/memory-card-recovery.html
This freeware has specially offered a "Format Recovery" mode for you to process this formatted memory card data recovery problem.
So, just download it here:
http://www.unformat-recovery.blogspot.com/2013/03/format-recovery.html
Good luck!

Once FORMAT option has been accidentally selected
on the menu of your camera and there are pictures saved on your memory card, then it will automatically be deleting all the stored images on your card.

It's just really recommended to use the FORMAT option if it's
your first time to be putting the card on the camera.

But, if there are pictures already stored there, try to stay away from that OPTION so that your pictures will not be deleted.

There is no way for pictures to be retrieved.
So. it's advisable as well that you should transfer first your pictures to your PC before you could select on the FORMAT
option of your camera.

Im phon not format/delete

  • Prepare your memory card for formatting. Decide whether you would like to format using your phone or your computer. If you decide to use your computer, remove the micro memory card from your phone and place it into the memory card adaptor. If you decide to use your phone's removable memory card slot, insert the memory card into the phone while the phone is off, before turning on your phone.
  • 2Navigate to the menu and select your phone options. Locate the menu that includes the technical list; you should see "Media Card" or "Memory Card" listed as an option. If your phone has a separate menu for Memory options, look within this for your memory card menu option.
  • 3Access the memory card menu and click "Options." Be sure that memory card support is enabled. Next, select "Format." This may be found listed or you may need to click on the menu within the memory card menu you have already accessed. After selecting the format you may have the option to choose between formatting the media card and/or the device memory. Select "Media card" if confirmation is required. Keep in mind you will be losing any data previously stored on your card.
  • 4Select OK when your phone asks you to confirm format. Your memory card will now be formatting to your phone and a progress bar may appear. Do not power off or navigate away from this screen. When formatting is complete, your phone will notify you and the progress bar will no longer be visible. You may need to confirm with an "OK" that your memory card has finished formatting.
  • 5For Windows users who wish to format using a computer, place the micro memory card within the adaptor and insert it into your computer's memory card slot. You can also connect to your computer using an external adaptor if your laptop doesn't feature one built in. After connecting the memory card, select "My Computer" within your Windows menu. Select your memory card, which should be listed within this folder. Right-click on the menu and select the format. Your computer settings will prompt you to accept the format and complete the process.

My memory card doesnt work. i have nokia 5800 express music,it shows like no memory card egsists. please help

There website is down so I can't see your model.

Two things, you did not format the card with the phone, you could have a format option in your menu to format the card before you can use it.

DO NOT FORMAT THE CARD WITH A COMPUTER.

The card might be the wrong kind, the phone might only be able to handle a SD Card and not a SDHC card.

Ok there back up, your phone can handle SDHC so thats not it,

Select Menu > Applications > File mgr..
These options are available only if a compatible memory
card is inserted in the device.
Select Options and from the following:
    ● Memory card options — Rename or format a memory

So you need to format the card before you can use it,

make sure the card does not have a lock on it,little switch on it,if it does make sure it is on unlocked.

If you have anything on the card, save it somewhere because the format will erase the card.
