The compressor runs, but the fan doesnt work when we trouble shooted it. we found out it has power when we bypassed the switch and tested it. we pulled out the control box and it doesnt look like anything is burnt so we think there is a bad wire or connection to the switch. so we think it is a bad wire or bad to the fan switch. This dehumifier was used but a few times since I bought it.

Hi, after reading you're problem, I found that you did the right thing. If you bypassed the switch and now you have power to the condenser motor but it doesn't operate, the motor is faulty, as you are eliminating the switch sending power to the fan motor. If you have power going into one side of the switch and you jumped it over, and the motor starts, the switch is at fault. So, you did the right thing! Sometimes you cant tell by looking at the switch wiring to no if it is at fault. In the field, we use jumper wires everyday to bypass components to check them out.In you're situation, both the compressor and condenser fan motor operate from this same switch, and the compressor was running. So, that tells me without having to bypass it that the fan motor is the faulty one, or the compressor would also be off. You may have to find one at a appliance parts house, or order one online. Sounds to me that you will have no problem changing this out. Best of luck to you, and Sincerely,

Compressor runs and gets hot but fan will not kick on. Replaced the capacitor and that did not help. One side of coils gets hot, the other side gets cold, which seems normal. Just can't get the fan...

Don't run the compressor for any length of time without the fan operating. Is it possible that the fan must be replaced? Can you power the fan safely to test it?

Fan will not come on.

The fan has to run if the compressor is running as the fan assists in removing the heat from the condenser coil. Can you spin the fan by hand? If there is full power(120 volts) to the fan and it isn't running then the fan motor is bad. Also, if the fan motor has a run capacitor this could keep the fan from running(if the capacitor is defective) so look for this first.

A one year old Kenmore dehumidifier model #580-54501700 runs but no water comes out. Do not hear compressor run. Unit powers up and fan runs.

these units are notorious for losing their refrigerant charge,if the compressor isn't running that is one reason why, have a gauge put on the system to see sealed system pressures otherwise the low-pressure switch could be bad,you can test this with a continuity meter

Compressor no longer coming on (Newair AD-40A)

You can take out the switch and do a continuity test on the switch in the on poisiton. You can do this witha VOC meter. and and if the switch has a High resistence then you can assume the switch is the problem and replace that. If the switch works out, it would be wise to assume the compressor has shot out.

Dehumidifier won't run

After all that testing you have diagnosed the problem. It is the main circuit board. So there is not reason to do any more test. I would just get a new control board and off you go

Whirlpool 50 pint dehumidifier

Lifeguard, there are generally no user accessible safety items in dehumidifiers. You are likely describing the start relay which is used to 'boost' the compressor on starting. Jumping it will not help you. It sounds like the compressor is defective. Economically, there is no justification for servicing these units unless they require refrigerant gas or if the fan motor has seized, something you can readily determine. If you don't hear the compressor hum when it should, there is no service procedure available for these sealed units.

The fuse is not really needed. Look at the sticker on the compressor in the back and you will see it is rated at 30 LRA which is locked rotor amps. Obviously if the compressor fails to start instantly for any reason that 30 amps is going to blow that 12 amp fuse (which is a fast acting instead of a slo-blo for whatever dumb reason).

The fix is simple, move the black wire that comes from the power cord from the terminal marked L in the lower right corner of the board to the unused terminal marked common on the big relay in the lower left of the board directly above the fuse. This will bypass the fuse and allow the thermal cutout on the compressor itself to do its job when the compressor fails to start due to short cycling.

I just had one of these units given to me because it was DOA and when I found the fuse blown I figured the compressor was shorted but after performing this fix the unit works perfectly and is drawing a normal amount of power according to my Kill-A-Watt meter.
