unusual for a 1Amp usually 4 as a minimum Thye 4A is also fast blow. But it wont hurt to have a 1A it wilol function just as well and take less to knock it out. I have found that sometimes 1A blew itself by just slightly sparking when placed in the socket, even without anything connected to it. It will depend on the condition of the power socket and the age of the car for this to occur.

So if 1A was in it replace it with the same.

It keeps shutting off

I would take a volt meter and make sure the voltage from the lighter plug is present where it enters the unit---the cig plug also has a fuse in it--no voltage would mean the battery not getting charged--those are good battery's and should last for years.

Magellan has fairly good customer service and may be able to help--rule out the no voltage reaching the unit for charging first--check the socket first and then the out to the unit second.

How can I get the code to unlock the European map Magellan Roadmate 760

You will need to pay Magellan for the authorization code, they are the only one that can provide you with an EU code for your Magellan 760 RoadMate. Sometimes Auto Nav 2000 Plus, Inc can also assist. They have direct connection with Magellan to assist issues with Magellan products. Good Luck

After recently purchasing my Magellan Roadmate 1400 GPS the cigarette lighter adapter cord no longer charges the unit. I am able to charge it from a regular AC wall socket but it will not start up in my...

look in the tip of the DC charger and see if the fuse has blown. This is usually the case.
Be warned! starting the car with the GPS plugged into DC can blow your SIIRF chip... no more satellites! and an expensive repair. be thankful it was the fuse this time

I need an upgrade for my magellan Roadmate 760

You can download an upgrade for this unit from the Magellan website for free. Maps can be upgraded but they cost about $80, and that doesn't seem worth it to me. See if that works for you.

Magellan Roadmate 700 does not power on

Hello, Rafster! Cigarette lighter plug problems are not uncommon, and - hopefully - this is the source of your problem. Because the green LED on your plug is lit, it would suggest that the FUSE inside is okay. Still, it's worth checking! The plug is easy to open, and the fuse easy to inspect/replace. IF the fuse is okay, the cord itself or the plug end that attaches to your Roadmate could be damaged. In order to determine this, you would have to check for voltage at the output end. But, you'd need a circuit tester and a wee bit of electronics knowledge to test it. If you don't have access to a tester, then the easiest test is to simply purchase a NEW cigarette lighter cord. You can get them at most retail discount stores (BestBuy; Circuit City; WalMart; etc.); RadioShack; or directly from Magellan. They're generally less than $10.00!

Magellan 700

if it's the same plug that works with 700/760 then the plugs good. .if your trying to use one for an 800/860T then it's not good. yes it could be the cradle or anything inbetween your unit and the source.. Or.. if your hearing the smallest rattle.. then look for one of my solutions talking about U6.. a small chip that is common to come loose from the board from rubbing up against the rear housing.
