Hi You can Try

Error Code 5100
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

I can verify that cleaning the timing strip works.

I was getting a 5100 half-way through a printed sheet. I used isopropyl alcohol from the drug store (70%), and cleaned both sides of the timing strip (**** strip) with a Q-tip. Made sure to clean *both* side of the st

A symptom of a dirty timing strip is that there will be vertical gaps visible in test output when you print the nozzle checksheet, and this gap appears in all of the colors. The gap will be slightly off in position from color to color, but this is because the nozzles for each color are in slightly different positions relative to each other.

If you simply look at where the gap is in the black output on the nozzle checksheet - that is where the dirt is located on the timing strip.

Sure enough, when I shined a light in there - I could actually see the smudge on the timing strip.

Thanks to this thread for giving me the clues I needed to avoid an expensive repair job!

I got an Error Code 5100 in my Canon Pixma MX850, but it is because a paper got stuck under the print cartridges.

error 5100 is a carriage error, meaning the printer cannot find the position of the carrier. You have likely gotten some grease or ink on the 10mm wide plastic strip that goes through the carrier, just to the rear of the ink tanks. Unplug the printer with the cover open, then you can manually move the carrier from side to side and use a tissue to wipe any material from the encoder strip.

Error code 5100 comes up. Says to close and restart printer. I do this and it prints fine for a few pages, then error code comes up again

Hi,

Opem cartridge door
5100 is a carriage error, check the timing strip for contamination(plastic strip about 1/4" in width)
The unit is not homing, check for obstructions on carriage path (iron rode). Please see blow video to locate "carrage"

MX850 ERROR CODE 6A00

Hi
Error 6A00
The 6A00 is a Canon generic code for paper path jam.

Solution 1:
Move the printhead carriage back and forth a few times.

Solution 2:
Check the purge unit: Moving the print head assembly will not clear a purge unit if its jammed with paper, paper clips, push pins, screws, cookie crisp, flower bud pods or the like.

Solution 3:
Press the ink pads down in the purge unit.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.
