Question about Whirlpool Cooktops

Whirlpool glass cooktop burner won't turn off

One of the burners on my Whirlpool cooktop is not working correctly. If we cook at High temp and turn off or turn to a lower temperature the element appears to start to cool, but in a few minutes it turns on again red hot. It will burn red hot for a few minutes before finally turning off or cooling to the desired temperature.

Is this a common problem with this type of cooktop?

It sounds like the burner needs to be replaced. When they burn out sometimes they short out to ground. The cooktop will have to be removed from the counter and the glass top opened. You will probably be able to see where the element is burned out. Replace it and you should be fine. If it is too expensive to fix just disconnect the wires to the burner where they attach to the control . Then you can use the remaining burners. I really don't know what a replacement burner costs. An open coil is around $30.

no solution - just wanted you to know that I have had this model since 2004 and had to replace this burner twice under warranty and twice after that. It broke again 2 years ago so I just cook without it now. I'm assuming this is an electric stove, since that's what the picure shows. Most electric stoves turn the heating element on and off to regulate the temperature. On high the element is on almost all the time, on low it's off most of the time. The problem is that when it's on, it's on at full power, and sometimes this is enough to scorch things like milk based creme soups.

You can do two things:

First, try using a double boiler. This will put water in the lower pan and help keep the heat lower than with a regular pan. You could also try to find a pan with a very thick bottom, and try that. It might work better.

Burner only cooks on high heat.

You need the switch for that burner. The contacts inside are stuck together. You will need to pull the unit and separate the glass from the lower body to access it. To get the right switch you need full model and serial number located on a plate at the bottom of the unit.

Your ability to perform this is dependent on how mechanical you are. The Whole unit must be removed from the counter opening and the base unscrewed from the glass, remove knobs before disassembling. For someone mechanical this is not difficult. De-energize whole unit first.

Once the two pieces are separated the remainder is mechanically easier. Disassemble the box on right containing the switches and replace the correct one. Reverse the process for reassembly. Good Luck

Definitely cut your loses and get a cooktop with a warranty. That unit sat on the back shelf for a reason.......it didn't work properly.

Also, but a cook top that is compatible with the safety knobs they sell as child guards at places like lowes and home depot.

Hi,

Initially, it could either be:

open heating element (most likely);
open temperature limiter (least likely);
faulty/loose connection/wiring (a possibility).

Please confirm that it is a Whirlpool RCC3024 Electric Cooktop.

Only high setting works on burner

Sounds like the Switch or the element are bad, try trouble shooting them. It's a stove top??

Our success has been to heat the elements to hot for about 5 minutes. Then let cool to reset temp sensor.

whirlpool induction range wfi910h0as1 starts beeping when oven gets hot I have a Whirlpool Induction oven/range that I think works great but my wife dislikes for one reason: When cooking something in the oven, if it gets too hot it won't allow the induction elements to operate.
