HMDI 1 and 3 do not work (why) ?

Since you did not mention HDMI 2, I assume you have that connected to something else, and that is working properly. The following procedure is based on that assumption.

First, turn off everything connected to the set, and the TV itself. Disconnect the HDMI cable from whatever is going to HDMI 2 (leave the TV end alone for now) and connect it to the PS3. If the PS3 shows up on the TV, the problem is most likely a bad cable. To verify, turn off the PS3 and the TV, then move the known good HDMI cable to either HDMI 1 or 3. If the PS3 works on those also, the HDMI cable you had originally connected to the PS3 is defective. I know there are some bad ones out there; there is at least one lot with a right-angle connector on one end and a straight connector on the other that has a very high failure rate.

If the PS3 does not work with a known good cable to HDMI 2, then the PS3 has a problem. Try using a component (RGB) or composite (yellow end) connection to narrow down what the issue is.

If HDMI 1 and 3 do not work with a known good cable or any input source (DVR or cable box), then the HDMI switching circuit inside the TV is defective. Since the set is "new" that would be a warranty issue.

How to connect sony ps3 to toshiba 32av500a

Use any HDMI cable to to this.

Connect cable to the "HDMI" port on the back of the PS3. Connect the other side of the HDMI cable to the "HDMI" port on the Toshiba TV. If the Toshiba TV has multiple HDMI ports, make note of which port you plugged the HDMI cable into.
Change the Toshiba TV to its "HDMI" video display mode. Press the "Power" button on the PS3 to turn the console on. The PS3 will automatically detect the HDMI cable. Select "Yes" to use the audio and video from the HDMI cable. Select "Yes" to have the PS3 automatically use the optimal settings for the Toshiba TV. Select "Yes" to accept the recommended resolution. Press the "X" button to save the settings

Connecting ps3 to hd tv

ok here's what you do. Hook up your ps3 to your hd via hdmi cable then turn the tv on first. Then turn the power on to your ps3 and switch tv to hdmi. wait a while then a screen should come up and you should see and screen where it says an hdmi device is connected do u want to accept theses settings say yes. sometimes the "handshake" doesn't happen properly. If u already know this or have tried this it could be that your tv needs a firmware update, happened to me.

Toshiba 32AV500U HDMI issues

The Toshiba 32AV500U cannot display 1080p. Hook up your PS3 to your computer monitor, provided that it can display 1080p, or some other TV that can, then change your Video Output settings under Settings> Display Settings and uncheck 1080p, which will allow the PS3 to display in 1080i. Once you do that, then hook up the Toshiba via HDMI and it will work with no problem.
