Enable AGP 4x

Here's a short story of my 4x/2x problemes:

I bought a EVGA 7600GS(AGP 8x), in replacement of a EVGA6200LE(AGP8x), in replacement of a ASUS RADEON 9600XT(AGP8x) working in AGP 4x.

Why I can't get AGP 4x working and only AGP 2x after NVIDIA,s drivers installed with EVGAgraphic cards? Is this in the drivers package and why it's working 4x with ASUS RADEON one.

I know that we have to install GART drivers before install ASUS RADEON graphic drivers. Do I have to install GART one's b4 nvidia drivers?

Is GART a part of ATI drivers? I saw there's VIA agp drivers in them in the installation.

Sorry about so many questions but you know so many $ for nothing is not for me.

By the way, i have xp pro sp1 embedded + sp2 alone on additionnal cd installed.

I took a look on VIA arena drivers site but i'm not sure about witch one to choose.

I think there's some via drivers inside xp sp2 and when i had formated few days ago it was working in 4x before i installed nvidia drivers and 2x after those ones installed.

Do i have to re-format "C/" or if i use nVidia uninstaller and drivers cleaner will be enough?

Do i have to uninstall via drivers too or delete cpu to agp via in the devices manager?
I hope that you will be able to help me.

Have a nice day!
lchialeux

P.S. sorry about my english writting, i'm french canadian of Québec city...

"you don't need to reinstall or format c:\ ..all you need uninstall al the drivers and install the correct driver of your VGA add on card."

I did it was working with asus radeon 9600xt.

"You need to install all the drivers enclosed in your motherboard and should be in series starting from the chipset upto last drivers enclosed."

You mean original drivers on mb & gc cds?

"if All of the above not working .. you need to reinstall your windows since it was a new motherboard to resolve all the problems encountered."

I did it few days ago...

    thank's

    Hi! again

    About:

"yes original Enclosed in your motherboard. Install a chipset ..and then install again the nvidia drivers"

On the original mb chipset drivers cd, there no drivers for XP (a 4.24 version). I had the idea to take the VIA 4in1 drivers on my asus radeon 9600xt cd. It's a 4.48 version (close to mine, i think). The agp 4x is looking to work but with an agp device detected (not installed, i'm sure you know what i mean...)

After that i'll try to install:

    a VisionTek NVidia Xtazy GF mx200 64mb
a BFG Tech NVidia GF FX5500 OC 256mb
an EVGA NVidia GF 6200LE 256mb
an EVGA NVidia GF 7600gs 256mb

All of them with there original cd's drivers
and between those installations a clean-up with Drivers cleaner pro after there own
    uninstallation in add/del programe.

All that work for get only agp 2x working on each of them...???

After that, i had unistalled and cleaned another time, for finally install my old
Asus Radeon 9600XT 128mb... guess what?
    It's working agp 4x...........

    Question:

Why i'm not able to install an NVidia graphic card working agp 4x on this f asus CUV4X-D mb???

I don't understand why and i'm sure it's only a little thing but what???

    Hello again!

    I fixed it...

I know, it's an old motherboard, but it's good enough for what it has to do...

I don't thint it's a problem between mb and OS system (XP Pro sp2).

It's may be between OS and NVidia's drivers because it's working 4x with the

same OS and ATI's drivers for my Asus Radeon 9600xt...

It's look like i will never know...may be a registry key missing or some conflic

    somewhere between OS and Nv...

Anyway, i had fixed my problem with a graphics card tweaker..... RivaTuner v2.06

    http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php...

I finally found that idea on an old forum page, on ASUS mb forum...same problem...

    http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=2...

Now it's working 4x. May be a little forced working but still working 4x...

    Thank you for your help.

    Bye!

As i read some review of the board (CUV4X-D mb???) i found that the mother board got a problems in the configuartion on the system. this is not a nvidia problem but in the motherboard. there is no definite solution on this matter. However if you are force to use NVIdia, in this case try observe and do the "Video BIOS shadowed" enable to minimize crases of the system.

AGP 4X

Hi,

Specs sheets for an Acer Veriton 5200 says that it has one AGP 2X/4X expansion slot, therefore the answer to your query would be a yes. Even if your add-on video card is 8X, it would still work however the card would downgrade itself to only $4X.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Video Cards

there are difrent speeds of AGP port cards.
agp, agp x2, x4, x8

4c90fe6.jpg
as the connector is difrent on agp 2x and on 4x you will need to look for a card that is made for agp 2x. Im not sure if they make 256mb cards for agp 2x.

Problem with FX500 VGA

In your bios, please enable the
AGP 3.0 Calibration cycle. Also, make sure your Aperture size is correct to the size of the card.

Also, in bios under PC health, check to see what the VAGP is running at, if it is not 1.5v, then your card is not getting enough power.

Also, in the advanced chipset features, make sure that the Init Display First is set to AGP.

When these are all set, reboot and go back into bios, check to see if you can change AGP to 8x now.

Compaq s4020WM AGP Questions

I don't think there's a 8x AGP card made that would not work at 4x, and any 4x capable AGP slot should handle an 8x card. AGP 1.0 (x2) signals at 3.3V AGP 2.0 (x4) signals at 1.5V AGP 3.0 (x8) signals at 0.8V
