Sony Vaio VGN-A417M. Could someone please tell me how to siort out my laptop. Whenevr i turn it on it comes up with balck screen with'Error Loading Operating system'? thanks in advance.

    thanks art. I trid the f2 option..doesn't seem to be working. I know you said proceed to format...i guess u meant putting the recovery discs in cd drive. Could you please guideme what should i do now..i have 9 recovery cd;s which i made few yrs ago.. 4 system ones & 5 applications recovery discs. Which ones shold i put in? I have putting both of them in but diesn't sem to help. Sorry for being thick..i am not reaaly good at the this?thanks.

Hello snowdonian,

You may need to reformat your Vaio. Some important components of your operating system may be corrupted.

If you're using Windows XP, check this link out,
http://helpdesk.its.uiowa.edu/windows/instructions/reformat.htm

But before you reformat, you might want to give it a shot & go to safe mode. If you're able to go to safe mode, you can save important files like pictures, documents, etc.

To go to safe mode, keep pressing the F2 button when you turn your laptop on.

Just choose safe mode & you should be all set.

If it won't go to safe mode, then you can proceed & reformat your laptop.

This can be a sign of a memory failure, either the RAM is not clearing or the hard drive is on its' way out. Hold the power button down for 6 seconds for a "hard shutdown". Then restart and see if the problem persists.

located on the bottom of you pc its a small panel with the ram symbol on it it's held with a phillips screw or 2 turn off your pc take out your battery then hold onto to something to drown out any static from your body then they are held by small clips on both ends of the stick they will pop up on a 45% angle then remove, replace and enjoy and try to match speeds of ram for better performance hope this helps

VAio VGN-FS742 Screen does not display
Try to remove the battery, remove AC adapter, and press and hold power button for 45 sec. reinsert battery, and Plug and try again, if that doesn't solve it, you may need to try to change memory first, (cheapest) or the motherboard or CPU.

My VGN FS920 shuts down at the window loading screen
ok no need to get a bcakup disk or downlaod anything

if ur hard drive is original factory fitted
and
ur laptop came with pre loaded OS as XP

then do this without disk

Sony: When you first turn on the laptop and see the VAIO logo screen, press the F10 key (you need to do this before the VAIO logo disappears).

Note: This program requires VAIO Zone 1.2.05 or later. If your VAIO model comes with VAIO Zone 1.2.02, you must first update VAIO Zone before running this program.
Download and installation
1. Download the file SOAVZN-01028300-UN.exe and save it to a download directory
2. Close all running applications
3. Go to the download directory and double-click SOAVZN-01028300-UN.exe
4. The InstallShield wizard starts
5. Click Next and wait while setup is installing the new software
6. Click Finish when the installation is complete

You need to open the pc and then refix all the components inside. verify also the memory chips, remove it and clean and then fix it back. if your noise maybe the hard drive got error. please tell me whats going after you do the solution.
