My new universal remote won't switch my tv over to DVD player mode, I can't watch dvds, and in the menu I can scroll across but not up and down! It's an rca remote, toshiba tv, and phillips dvd player. HELP! I can't find anyone to call for this problem.

I've gotten it to operate the tv to the ighest extent I can (It operates the channels, off and on, and the menu to some extent) but the input button won't change the input.
It's listed as compatible with all of these products, and I've gotten my vcr to play just fine, it's just that i can't change over to the dvd input

  • chibimuse Jan 18, 2008

when you turn on the vcr it switches, just go to channel 3 and turn it on and ta-da vcr!
I tried plugging it in in the front, no change

Do you still have the RCA package? check if it's capable of use with those brands.

So you can change things on your tv, except switch over to dvd player ?

Does it have a "Game" button or "Aux" maybe even "Dvd"
try buttons with names along those lines.

Well, thats all for now, I'll be back with more in a bit...

Oh, Ok, so the input button doesnt do anything ?

how do you make it switch to vcr ?

Try going to channel 3/4 and make sure the dvd player is on.

if it does nothing, plug the composite cables directly in the front/back of your tv. and try again.

If this didn't work reply again and I'll try to get you a solution.

How can I make a DVD play using a RCA remote control? I have the menu up but no combination of button pressing will allow me to play the DVD.

The Logitech Harmony Remotes are the best thing I have run across for universal ease. I have set up 5 for different clients and the start at about $50. I think you might be happy to switch to one.

Hello Hummer,

Please follow the instuctions below to reset the password and switch off the parental control on the Zenith DBV412.

1. Switch on the TV and DVD player
2. Switch the TV to the input for the DVD player
3. Remove any disc from the player
4. Press the SETUP key on the Zenith remote to open the on-screen menu
5. Press 2 1 0 4 9 9 using the numerical keys on the Zenith remote.
6. Press SETUP again to close the menu

This will clear any password that has been set. Now you need to switch off the parental control:

8. Press the SETUP key to open the on-screen menu again
9. Use the down arrow to highlight the PADLOCK for the parental control settings
10. Press the RIGHT arrow once to enter the parental control menu
11. Highlight RATING and press the RIGHT arrow once.

You will be asked to set a password. Enter something simple and easy to remember, e.g. 0000 then press ENTER. You will need to confirm the password by entering the same number again, then press enter again.

12. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to highlight UNLOCK then press ENTER
13. Press SETUP again to close the menu

You should now be able to insert your Across the Universe disc and play it. If you are still unable to watch the disc or you are unable to switch off the parental control feature, please let me know.

you can do 1 of 2 things ,you can buy a cheap universal remote and program it to your brand of player, once doing that you can hit the menu button and there should be a setting for language and you canswitch it to another language ,or there should be a menu button on the front of the player just push that and try different buttons on the front to be able to scroll thru your options.

Try going into player's menu, and set video out or TV type to NTSC.
It might have switched to PAL, or disc is PAL and player is set to any.

SWITCHING FROM TV MODE TO VIDEO MODE

Hi, If the AV button is not in your remote, then perhaps it is part of the Ch up/down buttons - meaning right after your last programmed Channel would be AV before the first program Channel. Although I have yet to come across such a case, I have worked on units/remotes that have this feature of the AV included in the channel memory. Good luck and kind regards.

The input button

On some sets you can use the menu button to enter the menu and navigate to the page which shows what input is currently selected and change it there. If your set does not have that option, then you will need the remote to do it. I have found that on some universal remotes, the TV/VCR button switches the inputs on the TV when the remote is in the TV mode. If that button does not work on your remote for your set, and you have tried all possible codes for JVC TVs, then the only way to switch inputs is to invest a few dollars more and get an original remote from JVC or have the set repaired so that the input button on the TV functions again.
