Some times you will need to open the Logical Ports on the router.
These are the logical ports.
For this you will need to open the set up interface of the router.
Once you open the set up interface of the router, you will be able to find the settings on the router where you can open the ports for the particular program.

If you are opening the ports for a special device in your network, then you must know the IP address of that device.
For example, wireless camera, DVR, X-box, Play station ...
You can choose the option PORT FORWARDING for a special device application.
If you just want to open the ports for all the network, then you can choose PORT TRIGGERING

For example ,
You have a Linksys wireless router and you want to open the ports for the X-box.
You have opened the set up interface of the router. You will see Application and Gaming TAB at the top.
If you click on that tab you will find different Sub tabs.
Click on Port Triggering => Here you can open the port numbers for the network.
Click On Port forwarding if you want to open the ports for a special device in the network.
Click Save settings once you open the ports on the router.

Some of the recommended port numbers for different applications :

IMAP ==> 143 SMTP : 25
HTTPS ==> 443 HTTP : 80
DNS ==> 53 FTP : 21
SNMP ==> 161 TELNET : 23
XBOX ==> 53, 80-88, 3074
PS3 ==> 80, 443-447 ,5223, 3478-3479, 3658, 10070-10080.
WII ==> 28910, 29900, 29901, 29920, 80, 443
VPN ==> 1723, 500, 443-447, 10000-20000
World of Wars ==> 3724, 6112, 6881 - 6999

I have buffalo WHR-G54S and i cant portforward

Are you by any chance using www.portforward.com ? Because I just checked it and all of the information you gave would appear to match it. If your not the owner of this router, or say your parents or your husband/wife etc. is normally in charge of the router, ask them the username and password.

If this is not the case, I would recommend resetting the router back to factory default by pressing the small round button on your router that says "reset". Afterwards the username and password should be brought back to the default values of username: "root" password : " " .

If this did not solve your problem, please leave a comment and I will assist you further.

Belkin Firewall interfers with ARES

one way is to turn the firewall off completely but chances are what you'll need to do is portforward ares port which you can find out the port in the ares program ...i think its under options or something to that effect. anyway you can port forward that port or you can set an exception in the firewall itself. i find portforwarding to be much less of a headache though. i think for you to portforward u should have a gaming or services option on your belkin or even a portforwarding option. follow the directions given there.

Re: Portforwarding thru a router not listed on portfoarward

ok... the IP address for your modem/router is probably 192.168.0.1

type that address into your webbrowser.  the username to login is probably admin, and the password is probably the same: admin.

once you log in, the very top row should have a link for 'firewall'

when you click on that, it should bring up the port forwarding screen.

manual for that model, including setting up port forwarding, is here:
