Check the "code" (interference eliminator code) on the FR60 and set it to off or zero. It appears from your description the Cobras do not have "code" turned on. Refer to your user guide to find the instructions for turning off the code. (As of this date we have not found an FR60 manual posted online.)

Best regards.

Can two different style motorola 2 way radios be changed to same frequency

Hi Kate,

The short answer to your question is: no, or "not readily". Here's why:

The Motorola 4900 radio operates in the FRS (family radio service) and GMRS (general mobile radio service) in the UHF band. This radio will work with any other FRS / GMRS band radios (no reprogramming of transmit and or receive frequencies is possible for these radios). The trick is that the numbering of the channels may differ from brand to brand ie: Ch1 on your Motorola may not necessarily be Ch1 on a Midland radio or other brand. A complete list of the frequencies and channel assignments for FRS /GMRS can be found on Pg. 17 of the manual. It is important to note that without a valid GMRS license, you are prohibited from transmitting on the GMRS only channels (Ch 15 through Ch 22). The combination GMRS/FRS channels (Ch1 through Ch7) and the FRS only channels (Ch8 through Ch14) are for individuals and family members that do not have valid GMRS licenses. If this is you, you should limit your transmissions to Ch1 through Ch14 only, as FRS does not require a license in the US. Unlicensed use of GMRS only Ch15 through Ch22 can result in fines and imprisonment if caught by the FCC.

Further complicating the issue are the so called "privacy tones". This is simply a very low or "sub-audible" frequency that is sent whenever transmitting. Motorola calls these "Interference Eliminator Codes". When another radio receiver is set to listen for a particular privacy tone, it stays silent until a transmission with the exact same privacy tone is detected. Again, these tones are listed in no particular order, but are generally listed as 1, 2, 3, etc. or a, b, c, etc. instead of the actual frequency in hertz. You can selectively set your radio to transmit & receive one of the 38 codes or, set the code to "0" to communicate with radio that do not offer these privacy codes - or does not use the same frequencies for these codes. You can read more on Motorola's codes on Pg. 19 of the manual.

The Motorola CP200 radio on the other hand is a commercial radio, and requires computer programming with Motorola software. The CP200 is offered as both Low & High sub-banded VHF and Low, Mid & High sub-banded UHF radios. You would need to have a CP200 that is designed to accept the Mid UHF band (438Mhz - 470Mhz) frequencies in order to program the 462Mhz & 467Mhz FRS / GMRS frequencies into it. The final obstacle would be what is called "FCC Type Acceptance". The CP200 is probably NOT Type Accepted for transmitting FRS/GMRS frequencies, and as such the Motorola dealer doing the programing might balk at putting them in. You can read a spec sheet on the CP200 here.

I hope this helps & good luck!

My cobra walkie talkie doesn't work after 2 miles

You didn't include the model number of the radios, but I suspect you're referring to Family Radio Service (FRS) / General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) two way hand held radios. The FRS /GMRS types are limited to just 1/2 watt. Base GMRS type radios are limited to 5 watts. FRS is limited to Ch 1 - 14. Ch 15 - 22 are GMRS only, and require an FCC license to transmit. You can read more about FRS on Wikipedia.

Many FRS / GMRS two way radios claim incredible distances on the packaging. I've seen some that claim 15+ miles. Given the low power (.5 watt) that they are limited to transmitting, claims such as those would be under the most optimal of conditions. I can assure you that you or I would never encounter those conditions unless we were in some sort of radio laboratory / testing space designed to obtain these crazy distances. In other words, even in optimum "real world" conditions; these radio should only be expected to work when separated up to only several "unobstructed line of sight" miles (such as across open water of a lake, along a beach, etc. The range of these same radios will be reduced significantly when operated indoors, outside between buildings, where blocked by rocks, trees, metal, etc. The only reason you may have reduced range could be due to a power level selector switch that has been set to reduce the output power of the radio. Other than that, I think you'll find a couple of miles is about all you're gong to get.

Good luck!

I have 4 radios. Initially they all worked together. Now , een on the ame frequency , they do not all pick up the signal? Any ideas why?

These are FRS/GMRS radios. You may have different privacy codes set on the radios. If a receiving radio has a different privacy code than a transmitting radio, you will not hear the transmission. This allows many people to share the 22 channels, but only hear transmission from their party.

One of my walkie talkie has an RX on the display and you can send but you cannot hear the other person. How can I remove the RX as that seems to be the only difference in them. Thank you

depending on what radio you have, they are programmed in different ways, rx means recieve signal

and tx means transmit signal, if you have a mode button, you will have to scroll through it until you

get to the menu that allows you to change the radio transmission. it looks like that radio is only

programmed to receive signals and not transmit. good luck!
