vertical red line running down screen.

MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

i had left my laptop in my trunk in really cold weather overnight, and it was in sleep mode. when i turned it on, there was a red vertical line on the left side of the screen.

the line went away after the computer warmed up (had it on and running for a few minutes). thank god, because i just bought it and i don't want an issue already.

A single, thin, purple line runs vertically on the left side of the screen. Is this a tool for something or a flaw in the screen?

Lines vertical

These lines are called vertical retrace lines, and caused by the video output section; or improperly set screen voltage. All of these type of lines will be a little slanting type, across the screen all over, with an approximate one inch apart to each other. If you wish to get more details, check this link. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Selecting the view option, either to Mosaic / Time slide, can be selected by the drop-down list, at the top left of the display window, will make surf easy. You can also do a search, by type in the brand name/model number/IC used, in the search box at the top right of the display window.

I think better to replace the set as all this sounds like a light engine failing.

Thin red line across screen two inches for the top. Picture above line is good, picture below line has no color and double image.

Hello,

IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

Hope this will help out.....

It sounds like a vertical deflection problem. You mentioned you had a white HORIZONTAL LINE in the middle of the screen. If this line runs from left to right across the screen it's in Verticla deflection. If it runs from top to bottom, it's in Horizontal deflection. I am assuming the problem is a Vertical deflaecion problem. The repairs necessary are most likley to replace the vertical capacitors or the verticla deflection chip.
Good Luck
