Pink spot in middle of Screen

When my screen goes blank between shows or the show is real dark you will see the pink circle in the middle of the screen...otherwise it is a great picture still and I have owned this tv forever....and nothing else has happened to it.

Right...if you look up 50V500A, its a Hitachi projection LCD....if its the lamp...I would say, hmm I kind of think its time...I have had the TV since Jan 2004. What do you need to know?

  • Marquish Jan 18, 2008

so replacing the lamp will not help...or were not specific in you answer...You did say it was I need to get a repair person involved....what would the average cost of this repair....If its more than about $1000 then it would be cheaper just to buy a new one....wouldnt you think? Please be more specific on your "this is a repairable condition" statement.

I am getting a Large pink spot in the middle of my screen only when the picture is dark or shaded. Is that the lamp or another major issue? Please read my other posts. Thank you for your assistance.

That model isn't known particularly for this, but on many other similar moels this would indicate a warped light engine causing distortions in the picture. It may be just starting to happen in your set and since it is caused by overheating of the plastic housing of the light engine ($$$) you should clean the filters of the ventilation fans and make sure it is getting cooled well. Also, projection lamps get hotter as they age so it may be part of the problem as well.

The Problem has to do with the light engine and apparently its a known issue and I would contact Hitachi on this one. If you complain enough and play your cards right they might give you a new tv or repair it for free even if its out of warrenty.

If you have a uniform pink hue on screen: turn television input to input channel that is not being used (should have a blank screen) shut tv off. Have television off for 2 minutes hold input button and turn on television. Let go of button after5 seconds. Television will have service menu on it. Hit menu on remote, this should bring you to 2nd page. Scroll down to Mem init box w/ remote. Hold joystick button to right til check mark is seen on square for mem init. Let go of joystick and this will re initialize memory. This fixed my pink hue issue and I did not need light engine. Remember to change your input to that of an unused one. Otherwise you will not be able to reinit memory.

Screen goes dark/blank once i reach the menu

Sometimes disk read problems arise when there are scratches/smudges on the surface(reading area).
Try giving it a clean, from the centre out to the edge, with a clean, soft cloth, then try again.
You could also try the disk in another PS2 to see if it's your hardware that is the problem. If it repeats in another machine, the disk itself is faulty, otherwise you might just need to get hold of a cd/dvd lens cleaner disk, run that, and see if it solves the problem.
Hope that helps.

Viewsonic VG 900 displays briefly, then goes blank

What Usually causes these to go on and off quickly is one af a couple things.

Usually it is the powerboard not putting out enough power to run the video board and the inverter.

Sometimes it is the actual inverter board. I have seen a plain small fuse stop these cold.

Rarely, but it could be a bad bulb in the screen. Bad bulbs usually start dark in the middle, or they start off pink. They can also flicker while they are on.

If you can take it apart and have a dc tester, the problem may be able to be found.
I repair some viewsonics , mostly VXs series, but I have done a couple of these.

If you're using component video cables, make sure they are good and tight. If it's composite video or S-video inputs, you will likely need service.
