Question about Hitachi 57SWX20B 57" Rear Projection Television

Update:Solved Hitachi 57SWX20B Congergence Issue

First I want to thank FixYa for the terrific and timely infromation educating me about this problem, solution, costs and issues etc.

Update: I called 1800Hitachi, asked them to recommend a technician in my area, called the guy and told him exactly what the problem was, so that he showed up with the ICs.

He opened the set up, and found 2 different ICs - STK 392-110, and SKT392-150. He had the 110 and 120s in stock, so he called Hitachi technical help with his account # and verified whether the 'unusual' 150 part can be replaced with a 120. So he changed the 110 with the 110, and the 150 (which is not mfg.ed any more according to Hitachi) with the 120, and additional one blown resistor.

Then he did a manual convergence of the TV (Magic Focus only did not solve it completely).

The TV appears to be completely fixed now, with 'at least' as sharp the image before the ICs blew.

The total cost was around $300.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any more help, just much as this site was to me on this issue.

Just yesterday, the TV shows started looking like they were being broadcast in 3D (my kids' assessment). They thought their favorite cartoons were being broadcast in 3D as part of some special 2/29/2008 Leap Day special. Pretty creative, but wrong.

All 3 colors (red, blue, green) are working, but the green is curved at the top and bottom of the screen. I used magic focus in automatic mode which didn't work. I used magic focus in manual mode (and checked the owner's manual) and realized that the green is "fixed", you can only adjust the blue and red.

So I've stumbled onto this website (nice job, FixYa) and this particular problem. It seems similar. I guess I'm going to contact a repair person.

I have a Hitachi 57SWX20B projection tv. The other morning we had electrical brown-out followed by a power outage. Upon power restoration the tv no longer has picture or sound. Checked the fuses (3 of them) all looked ok but I replaced them anyway. The main board has one red led witch is lit and 4 green led's, 3 are lit and one is NOT lit. I also unplugged the tv set from the wall for about 8 hours as outlined in the owners manual to reset the factory built-in circuit protection but still have the same issue. Please help me diagnose and repair this problem.

Hitachi model 57SWX20B , Sound, but no picture

I had similar problem with my 57xwx20b TV as well. I'd unplug it from the wall for at leas 30-40s and plug it back in, the picture would return as normal. It will come back from time to time but the same procedure will reset the video board and the picture will return. I'd also check to make sure that the TV has the latest firmware from Hitachi as well. The FW for the ATSC tuner is upgradeable via the SD card and Hitachi website will give you the procedure. This fix all kind of problem with my TV from blank screen, green screen, flashing screen, pinkish screen because the old FW was built before the final standard. Apparently, it interferes with the video board and causes it to go amock. Good luck.

Hitachi 57swx20b Suddenly the convergence is out of wack, even the auto correct is messed up -- the blocks at top and sides are distorted. This was a sudden occurrence, connections are secure, broadcast tv...

you probably will have to change the convergence ic. normally there is 2 of those and repair would cost arround 200$
you have to try to solve this in the tv menu first and then consider a repair.

good luck!
