I have an Onkyo TX-605AV receiver that will goturn off andgo into standby mode with loud sounds, when the volume is turned up usually over 60. I hooked the speaker wiresinto the banana clips for the connections into the speakers and the receiver. Other than the connections, what can cause this problem. Could it be related to the settings? I used the Audessey program on the receiver to configure the speakers. Any help would be appreciated.

0-83 error on onkyo tx nr 555

The 0-83 error indicates a problem with the firmware update.

Try resetting the receiver's BIOS by following these steps2:
Unplug all cables
Un-Power the receiver
Power the receiver
Before the receiver gets into the "Enter for updating" message, press Tone + CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. This will show you either the volume numbers or get you into settings of the receiver's speaker configuration.

Press CBL/SAT + ON/STANDBY. This will clear the BIOS and show a "Clear" message on the display. Wait until you hear a couple of clicking sounds for the receiver to turn on and off the power.

ONKYO TX-SR307. Problem with volume/sound getting lower. "Setup" does not alter / resolve the issue. Please help

Hi, if this has not been resolved please try the following reset:

To do the reset you need to turn the receiver on, then on the front panel of the receiver press and hold the "VCR/DVR" button while doing that press the "STANDBY/ON" button. You will see the word "Clear" in the display screen and the receiver will go into standby mode. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR AUDIO & VIDEO ASSIGNMENTS ON THE RECEIVER PLUS YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SPEAKER CONFIGURATIONS, SPEAKER DISTANCE AND ALL LEVEL CALIBRATION SETTINGS. YOU WILL ALSO LOSE ANY PROGRAMMED RADIO STATIONS IN MEMORY. Once the receiver goes into standby mode turn it back on and go thru the setup menu for all custom settings, Thanks, JT

My Onkyo TX-SR806 remote has recently lost its mind. The On/Standby switch no longer turns receiver on or off; must do it manually on the receiver. The Volume control is now reversed: when you press the UP...

Hello, the most used buttons can wear out over time. On/standby and volume are the ones that are used most often. I suggest purchasing a new remote. It is available at shoponkyo.com. Thank you, Onkyo USA

Trips and switches off

Hello Fixya customer,

Thank you for your question.

The best way to fully isolate the fault is to disconnect all the speaker wires, and verify that there are no strands of wire shorting between the speaker terminals on the rear of the unit.

Turn the volume all the way down, full CCW, and if it goes into shut down with the STBY light blinking then there is a fault in one of the amplifier's.

Thank you for using Fixya, and if I can be of further assistance please ask.

Onkyo ts595 goes into protect mode with volume increase

Hold the VCR/DVR button in and press the ON/OFF Standby button. The display should briefly read CLEAR and then the unit switches off. If that clears protect mode, you'll need to redo the Audyssey and configuration setup as these will have been cleared by the reset.

My Onkyo Receiver TX 601 is turning itself off

Several things can cause this: Loud signal passages can momentarily draw high currents at the mains, especially if you have unit plugged into power stripe with other equipment. Or if unit is plugged into isolation transformer, current draw may exceed output of transformer. Too many speakers hooked to output or if one is bad (partially shorted due to overheating)

My Onkyo Receiver TX 601 is turning itself off

May not help, but I had the same thing when I turned up the volume.. off it went.. then I found my two surround sound speakers had the wires shorting. Looks like a safety switch if there is a problem. Could check if the wires are crossed, shorted, and/or thick enouch to handle the volume.. test it by just having the stereo speakers enabled. Cheers,

Volume Control

How do you have it hooked up to speakers (are you using a center channel)? What listening mode are you in (dolby digital, stereo, pro-logic...)? It sounds as though you're not getting center channel info....
