There is a black box in the middle of the screen. The box goes away when I press menu or volume buttons, but after a few seconds the black box comes back.

is a text box. This can be turned off under the closed captioning.
There should be a cc button on your remote or the closed captioning
features can be accessed from your television's menu. Turn closed
captioning completely off to get rid of these text boxes.
Keep in mind that closed captioning can also come from your cable box or satellite receiver as well.
go into your menu and access the closed caption modes. someone has accidently put your tv in the "text" mode. turning off the closed caption feature will correct this.
It's a text box for either closed captioning or demonstration mode. Go into the setup menu and turn off closed captioning. If you have trouble doing that, then just restore factory settings.
well u have that there because... he massed up the menu like in those tv's there is a option if u wana do 2 things at one time like watch the tv and play video game so basicly there is nothing wrong with thee tv.. u have to go through the menu to shut the second screen off.. its probbaly for video 1 or video 2..!! just go through the menu one more time and go on every option u can and u might find it..where it says u wana turn the video screen off
Go into the menu and find "closed captions. Once there, turn off the "text" function. If you don't use closed captions, turn it all off. This will make your box go away. Let me know if I can be of further assistance
unplug the set for a while , but this problem will return because of a malfunction in the EPROM CHIP , this controls the menu and a few other functions
Find menu selection for closed caption. Note TEXT box ......Step through selections in that menu until you see text change to
