My vivitar auto thyristor 550 FD wont turn on

If the corrosion was from alkaline batteries you may use a damp cloth. But before you do that, try using a wooden pencil with a red rubber eraser. This is likely to remove the corrosion without risk of introducing water inside the flash.

Toshiba Satellite U405-S2824 startup beep code error

The beep you hear is a BIOS Beep Code. The computer's way of telling you something is wrong, and a general area to look into for it.

A short repeated beep over a long period, usually indicates a Ram Memory problem.

Remove ALL power to the notebook. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.
Suggest you remove all ram memory modules, and clean the gold plated contact pins at the bottom.

Use a pencil eraser. If using an eraser on the end of a pencil, and not a solid eraser, refrain from letting the metal band touch the contact pins. Reinstall the ram memory module/s.

Reinstall the Battery, then the AC adapter. WAIT 1 minute, then turn the notebook on.

Post back in a Comment as to the results.

I have a toshiba satellite A215 S6804 lapto that since boot starts asking me for a password, and remove the CMOS battery, but the problem persists, your BIOS is PhoenixBIOS is not normally the password is...

this laptop most probably belonged to someone else who put a password on bios. Removing the back-up battery did not erase bios protections, only the date and time. To erase bios is necessary specially equipment and is not cheap.

Hi there, my PC closed down last night for updates (I think) and this morning I cant get it to work. My monitor is saying there is no video input but there is a green light on my hardrive. I have tried...

try to look the VGA cable. maybe it just loosing the connection. or the power cable.. if nothings happen. open your unit and clean the IC of your Memory RAM with pencil eraser. make sure that you touch a metal for about 5sec before you pull out the RAM.. its because you have a ESD in your hands. after that.. put back your clean RAM. and power on your unit. hope this will help.. or.. i remember.. you can also try to remove the battery and flash your CMOS jumper settings to 2-3 settings.. then after 5sec. put it back to settings 1-2.. thx

Change the batteries message keeps appearing even with fresh batteries. The camera turns on then immediately turns off What's up?

This actually a really common problem among Canon point and shoot cameras. There are a couple of methods that have worked well for others.

1. Open the battery compartment and remove the batteries. Then take a regular wooden pencil and place the eraser end down onto the battery contacts. Rotate the pencil to remove any corrosion. Sometimes a lack of proper battery contact will result in the low battery indicator.

2. Take a toothpick and wedge the tip under the battery contact and break it off. This will put more pressure between battery and contacts.

You can also try installing 3rd party firmware at
This is a bit technical and will probably void your warranty, but might be worth the try.

AV8 Motherboad post code C5 freezes on boot.

Try cleaning the contact point of the memory modules "with a pencil eraser" and insert them back... Clean also the Processor heat sink if dusty... Then check the voltage of the CMOS (3V) battery it maybe dead, if so you need to replace that with the same type.
Keep me posted if still does not work...

Happy fixya...

Black screen on monitor

Hi there
Remove the side panel from the desktop and clear the cmos >>> cce5f1a.jpgmove the plastic jumper to the other position, and turn the machine on, if nothing happens, you have cleared the cmos, put the jumper back in its original position and see it the PC boots. If there is no Jumper, take the battery out for an hour.
Remember to remove the power cord before you take the side panel off.
Post back with the results please

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!
