Hi i have an old fisher & paykel whiteway 405 dryer and its making an awful noise and wont tumble. any suggestions

The Start/Run Capacitor has failed. The capacitor give the motor a voltage jolt to get it going. A 'humming noise is a giveaway for that issue.

Try replacing the timer.

you must have a 3" vent(the old vent) and the new one is a 4". go to a harware store and get and adapter from 3" to 4".

to be honest i doubt that a bad belt would make a squicky noise and for a high class dryer like that i would suggest just call repairman  they are very complex

I found advice on the Fisher Paykel web site that suggested the problem could be the door lock. In fact the catch had not properly engaged & when I fixed that the dryer worked.
